Is Reid setting us up on FISA?

by: Carnacki

Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 08:24:36 AM EST

Is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid setting us up on telecom immunity?

The Democrats in Congress seem intent on doing everything possible to alienate their base and independents by repeated capitulations to Bush and by making dumb ass mistakes. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-AT&T) may have enough goodwill built up from the past that he thinks he can piss on our legs and tell us it's raining and we'll still come out and vote for him. Or he may be relying on West Virginia voters being low information voters due to the terrible "news"papers owned by Ogden across the state so voters won't know his role regarding torture and warrantless wiretapping.

But I'm not going to forget and I'm not going to let others forget either.

what to do about wrong-way Jay (0.00 / 0)
Jay seems confused lately to me.  He's trying to talk his way out of the torture chamber that is public opinion of his knowledge and implied consent of various forms of torture used on suspected terrorists all over the world.  How do we let Jay know he is losing his Dem support in the mountain state to send a message that our vote is not a "given".....maybe we could get someone from the Mountain party to step up and run, that way folks would have a viable alternative without electing a replican, this would send a message to jay without causing him the election.  We could stop giving his campaign any money to see if the Bushes pony up like they did for Lieberman.  I used to like Jay and have voted for him many times in the past but this time I may just NOT vote for him, leave his page blank, rather than play the fool.

I just got off the telephone to Senator Jay's DC office and must say that I have seldom felt so patronized and perfunctorily dismissed. The young-ish male staffer who was working the phones did everything but yawn into my ear. I had called to suggest that the Senator support Senator Dodd's filibuster of the FISA telcom amnesty bill (aka: "Democrats Surrender AGAIN") and vote against cloture. "Uh huh," the staffer commented, "yeah, ..umm. Well, he doesn't talk to us about that intelligence stuff," he added. I suggested that Sen. Rockefeller's (D-Verizon) senate vote on the matter was unlikely to be secret for long, and he took my name and address as a way to get me off the phone, mainly, I think. Look for me soon on the "no-fly list"...
