I received this from my friend Marley in Harrisonburg. If you want to help, write me at beth dot wellington at gmail dot com. These are my buddieswho did the "Santa Brings Coal to BankAmerica" street theater in Charlottesville, which I wrote about earlier.
Hey friends
Im emailing you because I know you are smart, passionate, kick-ass people that want to help our land and our people from eco-destruction. Every day the fertilizer bombs are biting chunks out of the life, history, f..ing geology of Appalachia. The f...ers take the spirit out of it, process it till it's toxic goo, stuff it in their pockets and lie through their teeth all the way to the bank.
but we are the root force, we are outraged, and we are organizing. I email you because all that was unnecessary, because u know it already. want I want to ask is for your help in stopping it. Mountain Justice Spring Break. March 1-9 in Southwest va (near abingdon), March 22-30th in SOuthern Ohio, Meigs Co. Im helping to organize the SW. Va week, but our collective needs help.
The simplest way you can help is to start spreading the word. The biggest way you can help would be to jump on of our workinggroups and help chug away at the organizing of such a cool convergence of heady friends. Basically, what the week is intended to entail, and you can get more at MJSB.org, is workshops, presentations and dances focused on Appalachian culture, trainings and outings focused on taking direct action to stop the things that destroy the things we love, workshops on the memes and practices that are necessary to create the better world we want to build, camping and hiking and coming to know the blessed Appalachian bioregion, and local service and organizing to build and confirm solidarity with and support of Appalachians who want to build a better world too.
We need help getting the word out. Spread it all around. mjsb.org mjsb.org. chalking and wheat pasting, and shouting and tabling. We have fliers attached here:
But the help we especially need is on the collective. We have working groups on Agenda/workshops, groundwork/logistics, local service!, direct action, fundraising!, as well as general input on ideas that we could use some help in. it is all students and volunteers (as well as some ex students that are getting paid to do organizing work, not necessarily this work) in the MJSB planning collective. Though the spring breaks will go on whether or not yall jump on board, your help would be immense, and would make it an even more powerful experience. So yeah, let me know soon if you would like to pitch in a hand. Go check out www.mjsb.org.
Please pass this on to anyone you think is rearing to help stop the destruction of our futures.
Look for a new outreach packet hitting out today or tomorrow, and make sure to pass that around. please let me know if youd be interested in helping out.
There is no such thing as 'clean" coal. Coal's dirty when you dig it, dirty when you prep it for and haul it to market, dirty when you burn it, dirty when you dispose of the ash, and it sure dirties up politics!
