Is Gov. Joe Manchin a Democrat?

Not your average Joe.

Is Gov. Joe Manchin a Democrat?

You'd be hard pressed to tell visiting his new campaign web site: http://www.governormanchin.com/.

In a year when the Republican brand is at an all time low and voters are embracing Democrats at all levels, you might think a popular incumbent Democrat would use their camapign website to reinforce the Democratic party brand.

Well, yes, there is well-buried reference of being "Chair for 2008 of the Democratic Governors Association." I only found that because I was looking for it. Come to think of it... it's even worse to think the Chair of the Dem. Gov. Association doesn't want to admit he's a Democrat on his campaign website!!

Come on, Gov. Manchin, you don't have to be an average Joe to be proud to be a Democrat.

Definitely not a Progressive. (4.00 / 2)
He's a Manchin.  I will say one thing for him, you know exactly what to expect.  He stays pretty true to form.  I disagree with him on most issues.  However, when I hear him speak I'm all "rah rah".  He always has a bang up campaign staff.  When he was Secretary of State, the office was super friendly to everyone.  They would always answer or find the answer to any question.  I think his office now is very "constituient aware".  That said, the Charlotte Pritt fiasco still lingers with some of us.

Nice Guy but a Dem? I don't think so! (4.00 / 1)
Mancini used to be his name, coal was his game, now his name is Manchin and he lives in the governor's mansion.  He refuses to provide medical insurance for the poor teachers that were promised it years ago, he refuses to allow his DEP to be fully staffed ( over 100 key positions are left unfilled ) so they can do their job of issuing fines and protecting WV citizen's health from the devastating effects of coal extraction.  He tries to sneak through a bill that would undue a court decision against one of his pals in the natural gas business to the tune of 740 million dollars.  He gives a state of the state address that pats himself on the back for all the alleged progress he says our state has made, gives no credit to the underpaid legislators, teachers, state workers, volunteers who have made progress towards a future without coal.  He gave lip service to alternative energy but didn't let anyone from the environmental community attend his public energy forum and it's energy plan for the future(sic). He campaigns for a supreme court justice that is a national embarrassment for our state (they even wrote a book about it). I don't know about you but I'm going with Kessler in the primary.  Melvin Kessler is a real democrat, supports democratic ideals and wasn't involved in the coal business, he gets my vote!
