More than 200 Young People and Community Leaders are Expected to Attend
Huntington, W.Va. - U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Rep. Nick Joe Rahall (D-WV-3) will be the featured keynote speakers at the 2007 West Virginia Young Democrats (WVYD) State Convention at noon this Saturday, April 21, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Saturday's luncheon, which is the highlight of the annual three-day convention, is slated to start at 12 noon at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, which is located at One Civic Center Plaza in Huntington. The convention also includes meetings, workshops as well as a welcoming reception hosted by Huntington's Mayor David Felinton, the Cabell and Wayne County Democratic Executive Committees and the Cabell County Democratic Women's Club. More than 200 Young Democrats and area residents are expected to attend. The convention will also elect new officers for the organization, including president.
"West Virginia Young Democrats are a truly exciting group. They are enthusiastic, and they are true champions for the goals and ideals they so deeply believe in," said Rockefeller. "Like so many eager young adults across our great state, they give me hope -- hope in the future of not only West Virginia, but also of our entire nation. That's why I'm honored to be a part of their upcoming convention."
"I'm very eager to join the Young Democrats at their state convention," Rahall added. "It's wonderful to see so many youth interested and involved in the political process. Throughout the country, young people are devoting their time and energy to our Party. West Virginia's Young Democrats are among some of the most active and dedicated to serving their country."
"We're very thankful for all of the local support Huntington is showing our members," WVYD President Derek Scarbro said. "We are honored to hear from two distinguished public officials like Senator Rockefeller and Congressman Rahall and we look forward to hosting them in Huntington."
WVYD consists of 37 chapters across the state with more than 700 members. The organization is open to Democrats 36 years old or younger. For more information about this organization or to purchase a ticket to the April 21 luncheon, please contact Derek Scarbro at 304-412-1092.
