Rep. Shelley Moore Capito desperately seeking national press

I've noticed a trend lately.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito came into office at the same time as President George W. Bush. [With any luck, she'll depart at the same time, too.] Now in her fourth term, she's desperately trying to raise her national stature. In fact, she's getting some traction with more frequent mentions in national press.

Here's what I've noticed.

She's rarely quoted on anything substantive.

I've noticed this in articles like Time's recent coverage of the page program and articles like this in The Hill.

Today's example is an even better example. The New York Times reports G.O.P. All Ears as Ex-Senator Weighs Bid. What does Capito think former Senator and Law & Order actor Fred Thompson provides that the rest of the GOP field is missing?

"Certainly, you hear that voice and you know you have heard it before," said Representative Shelley Moore Capito, Republican of West Virginia.

That's right, she likes that he has a familiar voice.

Is that anyway to pick a President? It's all a bit embarrassing, really. We deserve better in WV-02.
