Shelley Moore Capito's war

by: Carnacki

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 11:43:02 AM EDT

Rightwing Bush Republican Rep. Shelley Moore Capito's last official statement on the Iraq war.

"In recent months we've seen hopeful signs of progress on security and localized political reconciliation in Iraq.  We want Iraqis to take control and we must continue to apply pressure to Iraq's national leaders, but now is not the time to pull the rug out from under our troops who are performing admirably and achieving results.

Reality:

Sadr City battle kills hundreds in April

U.S. troop deaths push monthly toll to 7 month high

When will Capito catch up with reality or is she content with misleading her constituents?

I have an answer to your "when" question. (4.00 / 2)
Shelley Moore Capito and her hubby Charles are cashing in on the war.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Take a look at their declared income on investments since she voted on the war, then "factor in" that members of the defense industry were primary beneficiaries of her earmarked legislation.

According to OPENSECRETS.org, her net worth jumped literally $MILLIONS between 2004 and 2005 alone, rising in rank from 116th wealthiest to 58th wealthiest even though she held no other paying jobs than rubberstamping Bush's proposals and blocking Democratic ones.

So from her point of view she naturally sees the surge as "successful" even though violence in Iraq is on the rise to the point where the green zone isn't even considered secure any longer.

Her point of view may be skewed by the fact that insider trading is entirely legal as long as you're a congresscritter.

So the real crime is that our local traditional media has never bothered to even confront her about the ethical implications of trading on insider knowledge of war industries legislation on which she votes. Meanwhile our so-called "journalists" never refuse the ton of bloody cash that her political campaign doles out every two years to their industry.

What a racket.

The answer to your "when" question is simple. Because she's no less guilty of deception than the media she pays off with the neocon blood money she "earns" by prolonging the war, both she and the media will continue for as long as they possibly can.

Great comment. War is a racket. I doubt if the media will ever ask her about it, though.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.
