Surber on music

Leave it to rightwing blogger Don Surber of the Charleston Daily Mail to encourage Democratic candidates to play the Republicans' cheesy anthem by serial adulterer Lee Greenwood, God Bless the U.S.A., over the music of rock and roll legend John Mellencamp, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who still writes great songs.

Greenwood, a draft dodger during the Vietnam war, wrote the song because he wanted to cash in on the patriotic fervor of President Ronald Reagan. He wrote the song for his love of green to cash in on the love of other people for the "red, white and blue."

Now I can see why a chickenhawk faux patriot like Surber loves the song but if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton play anything by Lee Greenwood at a campaign appearance, I'm writing in Alan Keyes' name for president.

Surber also suggested John Denver's Country Roads, which proves even a blind squirrel can find the most obvious of chestnuts.

Speaking of Surber (4.00 / 2)
Didja notice that he recently "burned" his blog archives? Could someone please tell me why Don Surber's blog archives only goes back as far as January of 2007?

Isn't this a major indication of his chickenshit lies?

I noticed that he even went to the extra trouble of removing his earlier lies from Google's "cache" files so no one could throw them in his face.

Seems to me that if he couldn't stand criticism, he shouldn't have lied in the first place.

For instance in 2005 Surber wrote:

Look at the financial mess unions have made of railroads, steel companies, the coal industry, the airline industry, the automotive industry ... am I leaving anyone out?

http://donsurber.blogspot.com/...

But just try following the original archive link above to see more and you get zilch. Normally Google would have it in its "cache" but Disingenuous Donny went the extra mile and had them remove it.

The FACT is that the reason the middle class has lost so much ground is because unions have lost influence, so wages and other compensation has gotten depressed back to a pre-1970s household slump. All the while corporations have gained more power and more earnings than ever because they view manpower as a more expendable commodity than machinery.

The problem with that is if the middle class has no expendable income then eventually the whole economic system topples. Except for the big businesses which of course are encouraged to jump to third world countries and bank its earnings offshore rather than paying for the infrastructure  they pillaged while they were rooted in the U.S.

But Surber doesn't want to hear it now that the economy is going sour and Americans are realizing that unions had nothing to do with it.

Point of Order, Mr. Chairman (0.00 / 0)
It doesn't really matter in a "whole universe" sense, but if Greenwood says he wrote God Bless the USA to capitalize on the first Gulf War, he's either lying or clairvoyant.  The song first appeared on an album in 1984.

Corrected, thanks. I could have sworn I read an article where Greenwood said that, but unlike most of the media and Republican blogger Gary Abernathy, I correct my mistakes when they're pointed out to me.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.

the archives (4.00 / 1)
The other reason he erased his blog archives is because of his countless inaccurate predictions.

There was the one where he said the war would pay for itself. (Fortunately, that one is preserved for all time, as it was in his Daily Mail column-Joe Wyatt slapped him down good on it)

Then there was when he said the GOP, thanks to Don Blankenship, was going to make a "historic takeover" of the WV legislature.

Then there was his prediction that John Kerry's botched joke would not only cost the Dems their shot at taking over Congress, but that it would give the GOP gains in '06.

Then he said Rudy's "Reagan moment" of invoking 9-11 in the debates against Ron Paul would propel him to the front to the pack.

and so on...

The guy make Bill Kristol look accurate.
