Back Room FISA Deal Brewing??

From ACLU's D.C. Legislative office: There may be a back room deal in the works to push through a FISA bill that lets telecom companies off the hook for breaking the law and spying on millions of Americans without a warrant.

After boldly standing up to The Bush administrations' fear mongering in February, word comes that House leadership may now be working with Senator Jay Rockefeller to possibly rush a pro-telecom amnesty bill through Congress in the next few days.

Civil libertarians in the Mountain State, say no to back room deals.

ACLU of WV :: Back Room FISA Deal Brewing??
ACLU of WV knows firsthand that many West Virginians made calls and sent emails to members of Congress during the last big FISA push in February when House leadership stood strong and let the atrocious Protect (more like, Police) America Act expire.

As time is of the essence now, please contact your representative and tell them: NO to back room deals that reward telecoms for breaking the law and further erode our civil liberties.  The following link will allow you to send an email to your representative:  https://secure.aclu.org/site/A...

Don't forget to follow up with a call:

Jay Rock selling Snake Oil to House Leadership (4.00 / 1)
Our own Jay Rock just can't pass up a backroom deal to protect the Bush Admin. from giving immunity to the tele-coms for their illegal, unconstitutional work to wiretapp American citizens.  I can't believe he's still working on this bill during a primary election, hey Jay, I voted for the other candidate today just to show you I care. No backroom deals, say NO to Jay Rock, send a message with yur vote.

I'm with you. I left the Senate vote blank.

Rockefeller has been wrong far to many times about Defense Intelligence. (4.00 / 1)
Since he's he chairman of the Senate intelligence oversight committee, I checked to see which Democrats in Rockefeller's  committee voted with his pro-big business pro BUSH position. It just so happens they disagreed with him to the tune of eight-to-two on each of Feingold's Judiciary-sponsored amendments which would have preserved your civil liberties. And in the senate Judiciary only one Democrat agreed with Rockefeller!

I remember when there used to be committee term limits for those who served on defense intel oversight. It didn't strike me as suspicious when the Republican-led Senate approved doing away with term limits just as Rockefeller's time was about to expire there.

In light of his FISA deal along with all the "mistakes" he's made in that committee, I suspect there are some very very powerful forces working of which we'll never be fully apprised.

Why isn't Rockefeller demanding that his telecom buddies produce evidence of Karl Rove and the RNC missing emails that were sent in conflict of the Hatch Act?

He's strangely silent about the technology when it comes to catching Republicans known to have broken THAT law, isn't he?
