Over on Daily Yonder Frank Kilgore seems to say that what Appalachia needs is more institutions of higher learning. This at the same time that Gov. Manchin and the Legislature are trying to make it harder for high school graduates in this State to attend. And if they do well in their chosen field of study they MUST stay here and take whatever employment they can find. This was not the promise of PROMISE.
The costs of tuition, room and board, books and fees, have risen faster than the published rate of inflation, and we all know what a farce that is,and the privatization of the student loan program has made the situation even worse. What good is that $200,000 sheepskin if the available jobs are in retail or the School System?

On to a little politics.I too, voted for Gen.Clark to come to the 2nd district to work for Anne Barth.WesPAC is doing yoeman's work in supporting our candidates this cycle.
Speaking of which,is it just me,or does Sen.Obama's highly publicized search fo a VP strike anyone else as just a little premature, maybe even a little arrogant, since he is not yet the nominee.I saw he was down in Florida yesterday pandering to the Jews and the Cubans.Maybe he should just lobby for their votes to COUNT.That would show he really cares. What a RADICAL concept.
I feel a need to repeat myself here:Second only to my concerns about who the next President will nominate to the Supreme Court, neither of the Democrats has salved my concerns about our out-of-control health-care payment system. As long as the candidates are only talking about how to funnel more money to the insurance companies, whose purpose is to make a profit for their shareholders and huge salaries for their directors, the debate will never get around to the best solution. That solution is the expansion of Medicare to cover EVERBODY.I wish there was more support for the plan put forth by the Doctors' group.
