Exxon fine equals $92

The U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision lowered the fine to Exxon for their damage from the company's negligence in the Exxon Valdez oil spill that created an environmental disaster to $500 million from $2.5 billion. That sounds like a lot until you consider, as Devilstower points out, is a half a day's revenue for the oil company.

To put the fine in perspective, the median household income in the country is $48,000 - and just counting working days since unlike Big Oil we're not making money 24/7 - the fine is going to cost Exxon about the same as $92 would to the typical household.

Exxon pays a Quarter on the Dollar (4.00 / 1)
I am not a mathematical genious here but my math says they got off with twenty five cents on the dollar and since the decision is twenty three years in coming it amounts to about a penny a year, betcha can't beat that one.  Exxon has gotten hold of our Supreme Court just like the Bush lawyers got ahold of it in 2000.  Why do we expect anything but injustice from this supreme court?
