Montana, Blue?

For those of you who might have missed it, Rasmussen   (who I've found to be fairly reliable if not right leaning)  released new numbers from solid red Montana, who we share a lot in common with.

Obama attracting 48% of the vote while McCain earns 43%.

I'll let that soak in. Montana, which has only gone blue once since 1968, when the Big Sky folks went for Clinton in 1992 -- is supporting Obama.

LiberalFace :: Montana, Blue?
If the 50-state strategy can win over staunch Red Staters like them, can we not bring the Mountain State home for Obama?

Joe Manchin even thinks so. As detailed by the Gazette: http://www.wvgazette.com/News/...

Seriously folks, Manchin barely supported Kerry, but he's willing to stick his neck out for Obama? That should tell you something right there.

So, can we win this state for Obama? Of course we can.

Look at the facts in our favor. First, we have a vast majority of people who don't agree with President Bush's policies. We have a strong Democrat ticket across the state, and most voters in WV vote straight ticket.

The problem is, most of them don't know who Obama is. That means we have to educate them about him. Dispel the rumors that he's a Islamic Jihadist out to take their guns and make them convert. We have to make them realize he shares many of their same values. That he's a devout Christian who cares for the every-day working man, and that an Obama administration will improve their quality of life, while a  McCain administration will be more of the same.

Of course, it will help if his people realize that they can win this state and invest in the people of the Mountain State, which they didn't do in the primary and it cost him big time.

That said, I don't know about any of you, but I will be really disappointed if they can turn Montana blue, but not West Virginia.

The West is quickly turning Democratic blue my friends; even with McCain as their native son (4.00 / 1)
McCain is even struggling in maroon Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming....

and yes even in his home state of Arizona.

We Democrats have just about locked up Hawaii, Washington state, Oregon, and California....

Colorado, New Mexico, and now Montana look great for us Dems too...

And yes even solidly Republican Alaska is in play for us this year.

And that's even with a lifelong Westerner on the top of the Republican ticket.

Even the adjacent Great Plains states to the East of the Rockies are leaning more Democratic than ever before, especially North Dakota.

As for West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky I am still 50/50 on them right now.  It probably depends on my neck of the woods.  Obama's weakest areas in all three states are ironically traditionally the most Democratic parts of the three states, the coalfields where I live.  That's sad for me to say that but very much true.

If we Democrats could just get my fellow coalfield Democratic voters to stick to their Democratic roots and educate them to not be fooled by the Republicans trying to divide us with negative religious and racist stereotypes I think we have a shot at all three states the Virginias especially.

I'm only 50/50 as to whether we Democrats can do that her in West Virginia here especially among my fellow white evangelicals and Pentecostals.  McCain still leads among them 69-21.  That number to me is very disturbing especially considering the obviously the last non-Christian and hypocritical 7 and 1/2 of the Bush administration.

Judging from what I've observed in my own church it sadly doesn't look good at all for us Democrats concerning the evangelical and Pentecostal vote right now.

The McCain evangelical problem has sadly been greatly exaggerated by the press.  In this case though I think it's more of an anti-Obama vote than a pro-McCain vote, mostly because of Obama's "Muslim-sounding" name, Rev. Wright, and Obama's small town comments.  They sadly resonated very strongly in my church.

Here where I live the non-evangelicals and non-Pentecostals are very open to voting for Obama.  My fellow white evangelicals and Pentecostals sadly still not as much....

even after 7 and 1/2 the hypocritical, Phariseean, non-Christian acts of the Bush administration.

I'm with you.  I will be greatly disappointed if Obama carries Montana, Nevada, and Colorado and not West Virginia.

i meant 7 and 1/2 "years" of the Bush administration; somber weather forecast (4.00 / 1)
I left out the most important word as usual.  Sorry about that.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend everybody.

Sadly it's going to be a trying July 4th weekend on the weather front.  Heavy rain and thunderstorms are predicted every single day not only this entire July 4th weekend but for next week as well.  We've already received too much rain this year already and sadly much more is forecast and happening right now as I type this message in the parts of West Virginia that need it the least:  Northern and Central West Virginia and the eastern mountains.....
