West Virginia representing in Austin

by: Carnacki

Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 17:42:45 PM EDT

I arrived in Austin and took the public bus to the Netroots Nation event just as DNC Chairman Dr. Howard Dean was about to speak outside. As I listened, Booman of Booman Tribune was on my left and then Kos of Daily Kos walked up and was on my right. I introduced myself. I went up to the Democracy for America booth to check in and there was Jim Dean. I had lunch with wvblueguy, who seems to know everybody in Democracy for America, and JanetTinMD.

Navajo just came up and told me some people were looking for me. Gotta run.

You can consider me green with jealousy. Have fun! (4.00 / 1)

Glad you and wvblueguy had a safe trip; we miss you here in West Virginia (4.00 / 2)
Have a good time and a safe trip back Sunday.

I didn't know wvblueguy went to Austin, TX as well.  The same is true for him.

I agree on the jealousy! (4.00 / 3)
Oh how I wish I could be there! But since I can't, I'm pleased as punch that Carnacki and wvbluegy are.

Hey - do you think that, when you get back, you could write a non-partisan primer about how to represent our state effectively? We could slip it under Capito's door...

(Not that I necessarily want her to change her stripes, since I'd much rather we booted her out of office!)

You'd do better if you slipped her a fat check worth almost $300 grand (4.00 / 3)
expect her to represent you over Big Oil. BTW everyone should mark the date when the prices per barrel of oil slides back to $60 or $70 bucks per barrel so we can compare it to the date she and her hedge fund hubby sold short.
Never forget that millionaire insiders get rich selling on the downside as well, and that insider trading is still legal for Congresscritters.

I caught the last fifteen minute of Kos and Ford. Now it is Digby, Paul Krugman, Atrios and a historian reading about the press and the 1968 convention. The infamous Agnew quote was read.

Mr. CA Berkeley WV and his high school friends turned the Washington Monument purple (school colors) in 1969 and had Agnew so pissed he accused the perpetrators of "Defacing a national monument".

For my history requirement I took: American History: 1945 to the Present. At the time the present was spring 1972, UC Berkeley. We had to read Gary Wills book, Nixon Agonistes (1970).

I bet there are so, so many good forums to attend, scholarship boy. Have a good time, and be prepared to educate the rest of the unwashed masses the second Friday in August.

Off to pick up the kids for the office picnic. Swimming for everyone!
