Capito needs a 'reality check' on her double-talk

by: Carnacki

Fri Jul 18, 2008 at 15:27:45 PM EDT

Shelley Moore Capito rhetoric November 2006: "Capito conceded the war had a major impact on her race and others throughout the nation. She called for the new Congress to 'join together in a bipartisan way with the president to bring our troops home as soon as we can.'"

Reality: Capito has opposed every bipartisan effort "to bring our troops home as soon as we can."

Roll Call Vote 796 (0.00 / 0)
This was on 2 August 2007, Thursday. The story ran in The Journal that morning that Shelley and all her concerned Republic women friends had gone to the White House earlier in the week, and talked to Georgie about how truly worried they were about all the troops, and they had told him that we had to just bring all our brave men and women home so very soon.

H R 3159 Ensuring Military Readiness Through Stability and Predictability Deployment Policy Act

The vote for passage at 2 PM on 2 August 2007. I waited with baited breath after reading the story, as I knew there were some Republican defections starting to happen. This was dwell time, what the British call harmony guidelines.

                   Yeas   Nays  PRES   NV
Democratic     223       4            3
Republican         6     190            3
TOTALS          229     194           6

Guess how our representative voted? You got it, NAY.  What was it the Shelley did not like? Congress actually doing its Article I, Section 8 duty:

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval forces;

SECTION 1. MINIMUM PERIODS OF REST AND RECUPERATION FOR UNITS AND MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES BETWEEN DEPLOYMENTS

Was there any follow up about what was before the House by the local reporter? All the YEA votes from the other side were men, like Walter Jones and Wayne Gilchrist. I'll let you guess. The reporter got an email from me.

We have all seen the gob-smack every Fourth of July up to this year. My oldest was in Morgantown for one love fest. I became totally disillusioned in the local press that day. Shelley's local press people were artful in their timing to mask her upcoming vote. Shelley knows that her votes on the floor do not match her rhetoric locally. We can't stop pointing it out. Here's hoping the Barth shop can plug in as well.

My computer did some kind of burp and I did not think I had posted. I was a little crossed up on the vote until I searched my emails. SORRY.
