The biggest laugh was when a big rig hauling gasoline slowed, honked,
and flashed a "thumbs up" as he rolled past.
Protest organizer Martha Mills asks fellow protestors to accompany her to present their petition calling for Rep. Capito
to quit towing the party line and start doing right by us.
Protestors gather around Rep. Capito's District Director Mary Elisabeth Eckerson
Ms. Mills was quite clear when she told Ms. Eckerson that Capito's plan would not lower gas prices, leaving a petition with the District Director with specifics to document the event.
WOWK sent a news team to cover the event, interviewing several at the curbside, but I never caught any coverage of the actual newscast. I'm now wondering if they ever intended to actually broadcast it, because I don't think they interviewed anyone from Capito's office to get a reaction while they were there. Also, it's interesting to note that while there, I also observed a WCHS news van pull up on the opposite side of MacCorkle Avenue, but they pulled away quickly when I pointed my camera toward them. That was the fifth time I've seen local TV news flatly refuse to cover protests since Bush was first placed in office by the Supreme Court.
In my opinion, when they refuse to inform the public of protests against public officials, they are abusing their airways privilege.
