Rightwing bloggers getting no love at RNC

I'm sure Clem and Wabi will want to weigh in on this, but from my perch here it seemed as if they were treated very well by the West Virginia delegation, politicians, the DNC folks and the sponsors of The Big Tent.

How does the Republicans treat their version of the netroots? Not so well:

Here on what is passing for "Bloggers Row," there is plenty of grumbling about the accommodations supplied by our hosts. Some descriptives [sic] are not printable. Most reflect a huge disappointment with the way the GOP has shunted most of the bloggers off to the side, far from the action ... .

The labyrinth one has to navigate to find the darn place would tax the abilities of a carrier pigeon. I honestly felt like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs when I went out for a quick smoke. Not that it would do any good. The food on our level is so bad that I have no doubt some ravenously hungry media type would have preferred the breadcrumbs to the greasy, tasteless crud they were serving at the kiosks. If I wanted the same stuff they serve at a hockey game, I would go to the Libertarian convention down the way.

Bloggers could do just as well "covering" the convention by sitting in their hotel room. Or better yet, they could have saved a lot of money and stayed home and done as good a job.

I know from talking to Clem that he's got a lot more to post about from the convention, including his interview with Governor Joe Manchin on energy. The access and willingness to discuss issues with our WV Blue bloggers by the West Virginians was fantastic even with some of the politicians we've criticized most. That's to the credit of our party's leaders and to the DNC to take the risk and open itself up to such transparency from the bloggers. In the end, our bloggers were the eyes and ears for the people who couldn't be there, citizen journalists as some have described bloggers. Our WV delegation and our party treated our two bloggers with respect and courtesy.

The rightwing bloggers also represent their readers as ordinary citizens there to cover the RNC. We see how the GOP treats ordinary people, in their own words "shunted" off to the side and away from the action.

That's a very telling difference between the two parties and their leaders.

It's most likely because right wing blogs are generally useless. (4.00 / 3)
Their blogs are mostly dark and negative, filled with nothing more than talking points comprised of twisted facts and straight out lies. Telegraphed and repeated endlessly across the neocon blogosphere, they have few real issues and fewer substantive ideas, so their lack of relevance naturally places them at the very bottom of the Reptilican food chain.

At one point in time, I thought that this just may have been my point of view, but I've noticed that lately, even Don Surber's regular bottom feeders are beginning to subtly reveal their realization that he lacks credibility. I was wondering how long it'd take for it to dawn on them that everything he writes is heavy on style and light on substance.

DNC treated bloggers well (4.00 / 2)
I agree that the DNC experience and access for bloggers was exceptional.  There were a couple of logistical bumps along the way and some issues with other media outlets looking down their noses at some of the other State Blogger Corps members, but our experience was very positive.

I give credit to Gov. Joe Manchin, Chairman Nick Casey, and the other leaders and delegation members who were all very accommodating and interested in how they could help us share the Convention experience with folks back home in WV.

Additionally, they made commitments to continue a dialogue with us moving forward through the fall campaign and beyond.  Clem will likely include a particularly salient quote from his interview with the Governor when the Governor related that although we may disagree with his positions from time to time, he feels an obligation of accountability to share where he is coming from regarding those positions.  I give him a lot of credit for that statement (and hope that he doesn't forget it).

In contrast, as evidenced by the huge number of protesters that have been arrested at the RNC, and the ongoing attempts to declare war against the mainstream media (much less bloggers and new media), the Republicans don't handle questions or those who disagree with them very well.  In fact they find them threatening and act accordingly.

In a good conversation everyone speaks.  In a great conversation some even listen.
