Very Surprising !

via AmericaBlog, a Daily KOS diary that is more than a little surprising.  I would need to see some confirmation of this response before I believed it.  But, if true, it is very good:

"Well, it looks like the candidate in this election who will be the ultimate uniter won't by Barack Obama but Sarah Palin. Yesterday I was booowled over to learn that some rabid, rabid Republicans who live in rural Missouri now agree with me on one thing: They hate Sarah Palin. Hate her. The final nail was Thursday night's VP debate....

It turns out that they really, really, really, really did not like the fact that Palin flat out did not answer many of the questions. They found that to be outrageous. After all, the entire reason they were watching the debate was to see her answer questions, doggone it.

They also did not like all her attempts to be folksy. To them it just came off as, um, I think the word they used was "phony." In fact, the candidate who seemed to them to be real and more like them was not Sarah Palin but Joe Biden.

The women, in particularly, did not like Palin's flirty, winky act. That went over like a lead balloon. And both the men and the women did not like her "Can I Call You Joe" schtick. They found that to be disrespectful to Senator Biden."

Please let this be the true response to Palin. From Sullivan:

Women And Palin

05 Oct 2008 01:59 pm

Another reader writes:

Continuing on your theme this morning, I just want to point out that women of any intelligence recognize Palin as a female archetype we've had to deal with for years. In modern vernacular, she's a "mean girl," who is ambitious and has no trouble stabbing people in the back to get what she wants. This type of woman is terribly divisive, splitting women between adoring acolytes who want to be "just like them" and women who see clearly what's going on and can't believe that no one else (especially males) can see through it. If Rich Lowry has a girlfriend with a brain, I bet she'd like to strangle him.  Right now, Palin is cocky, self-satisfied and believes she has fooled the world. This is good news. It's frequently the state of things just before a mean girl gets toppled from her throne. The waiting can be hard, though.

This female archetype knows no generational boundaries. My mom, who is a serious fundy and believes the Bible is a scientific review of creation, had not seen much of Palin prior to the debate.

Her only sense was that Palin was being persecuted for believing in the Bible. Even she was appalled by Palin's performance at the debate and thought the flirty phoniness was totally unbecoming a national political figure. You could almost hear a collective embarrassed groan from educated, non-neoconservative women all over the world who have worked their asses off to be taken seriously only to have this bimbo blatantly and on camera attempt to reduce the role of women to their ability to flirt.

That's how ms. carnacki described it to my daughters. They were talking at lunch table today about why so many women at church thought poorly of palin. ms. carnacki was telling them that the women who work always try to maintain a professional demeanor, but they'd all seen women who behaved like that and considered it inappropriate and an embarrassment to women. Now GOP men, they like their women like that, flirty and not well informed, but dedicated to ideology even though they can't talk about the issues seriously. But they like the winking and the cutesy stuff. The rest of us, not so much. If you need to behave like that to get ahead, it means you don't have the talent and pro skills to get ahead.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.

ya know . . . (4.00 / 2)
carnaki - ya know, a few quotes, or a bunch of quotes, from women who are upset about Palin's demeaning them would be useful.  Particularly conservative women, and women who are members of conservative churches.

If the feel described throughout this post are widespread, thar be gold in them thar hills.

At the homeowners association meting, (4.00 / 1)
I was asked if I wanted to vote for Obama/Palin. He assumed I would go for the "girl" and vote my sex. I was appalled, but did not show my pique. I explained that social justice issues informed my decisions not gender. I had rational reasons for supporting a progressive ticket, especially as a religious person. Beyond the life of the unborn, there are issues of food insecurity, dignity of work, no torture ever, opposition to the death penalty and unjust war.

As a small town elected official, I asked if I would be ready to be considered a 72-year-old cancer-survivor heartbeat away from the position of CinC? I told him I want neither a hot-headed crap-shooter ex-pilot known more for partying than flying, nor a small town politician who has used her office to carry out personal vendettas at the city and state level. I deal with people like her every month at town council meetings.

I was third in my high school class. My oldest was in the top ten. The daughter I have in high school now is third. We are the band geeks, the girls who get math and science, the drama freaks, the chicks on the debate team. Most popular, pretty and mean girls are not us. We are not ugly or gross, just smart and threatening.

Woman can have it all, but not just all at the same time. I work for a small company that is very family oriented. Going back to work 9-to-5 with an infant was possible because we lived just across the street from home. I did not get involved in local politics until after the youngest was beyond elementary school age.

In the Catholic Church there have been issues with woman's participation. My father-in-law's parish had men standing during the entire Mass in protest of women not being allowed to serve in certain ministries. Fourteen years ago our oldest jumped at the chance to become the first girl in or parish to become an "altar boy". Her bishop revised the instructions; her cousin's did not. My high school student is a lector as am I. This weeks readings from Isaiah, the Psalm and Gospel according to St. Matthew were about taking care of God's vineyard. This week's second reading from St. Paul reminded us there was a God of peace.

Her pitch reminds Mr. CA of his mother-in-law, that smiling but nagging nasal sing-song quality. That may not be unique to him. The winking just screams "dumb blonde" to us. And the lip pursing and smacking reminds us of one of those girls who chews gum all the time, even when it is not appropriate. And then puts it under the seat.
