Magic Vote Changing Machines Come to West Virginia

The Charleston Gazette in Charleston, West Virginia has a story about West Virginia electronic machines where a voter casts a ballot for Obama but registers a vote for McCain:

Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

The Gazette observes that the two counties where problems have occurred have Republican oversight of voting.  The Republicans in those counties decline to address the problem; instead, they blame voter errors.

The Republicans have played their little reindeer games now in two election cycles.  We're all on to their little bag of tricks.  If they think we'll sit back and let them steal a third national election, they should seek psychiatric assistance.  Not even our obtuse and all-forgiving media seems to be missing the shenanigans.

Update from Carnacki

From an email from the Campaign for Change:

We WANT people to go vote. We want them to feel confident and we want them to vote early. If any voter has any problems while voting, we want them to remain calm. Ask a poll worker for assistance, explain the problem, and work it out so their vote is counted properly. The best thing that can happen is a voter get the help they need while at the polling place so we don't have to ever worry about complaints after the fact.

Of course, if something is not resolved and voter has already left the polling place, we have a team in place to ascertain what happened and make sure there is not a systemic problem. Anyone who has such a problem can call the campaign HQ at (304) 341-0205 and speak with a  field organizer to leave their information and the specifics of their problem so we can pass it on to the Voter Protection team.

We need to stop these people this year. (4.00 / 2)
I am fed up with their electronic ballot stuffing ways.

Down with Capito!

Post on this at DailyKos (4.00 / 3)

Inky99 has a recommended diary on DailyKos concerning voting machine issues in Putnam County.

As posted above the machines react to voters selecting Barack Obama by changing the vote to McCain.

unconfirmed report in Berkeley County (4.00 / 1)
I've heard 2nd hand of problems in Berkeley County (Martinsburg) as well.

Tyler had an email Wednesday (4.00 / 2)
I was in HQ when the woman with the Dog for Obama pictures, this is why I will never get anywhere in politics, talked about her experience with a vote flipping machine here in Martinsburg, Berkeley County. Just what was described, a vote for the Democratic nominee shows up on the screen as a vote for the Republican nominee. So it is not just the optical scan machines and the Supreme Court race. Great.

But not me personally were those cheers for (1-6-7-5-2-8-3-4)--Sarah Palin

You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on that it's almost embarrassing to listen to you--Zbigniew Brzezinski

Perhaps Betty Ireland is more partisan than we think. Her former employee Ben Beakes is McCain's state director. Since they have almost no staff and not likely to get any help from the McCain campaign, they decided to 'fix' it. Just sayin'....

Its pretty commonly understood that Shelley intends to run for Senate and Ireland for Congress.

national voter rights awareness campaign needed (4.00 / 1)
Obama campaign should push voter rights education now. People should be posted outside the polls to educate voters on their rights. This should be a national public awareness campaign.
