West Virginians protest attempt by Chamber of Commerce to buy election

by: Carnacki

Protestors angry at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce attempting to buy the attorney general's race showed up to protest this morning. From an email:

It was amazing how many people turned out for this morning's protest against the WV Chamber of Commerce, considering the short notice that was given.

Thank you all!

So to drive this message home, we will be out there again in the morning,  (Tuesday)starting about 7:30 AM and lasting as long as people want to stay.

We were (and will be again) at the corner of Greenbrier and Kanawaha Blvd, just a few doors down from the Chamber.

Our protest was such a success that Chamber head honcho Steve Roberts dropped by to see what the fuss was about.  He even brought coffee although several members of our group refused to be bought off.  We did proceed to point out  in detail, the blatant lies told by the Chamber in order to destroy Attorney General Darell MacGraw.

The best Roberts could come up with was, "We disagree on the facts."  "Facts?"  I do not believe the Chamber wants to be bothered with facts.

The Chamber of Commerce doesn't like that Darrell McGraw has done a good job protecting the people of West Virginia by enforcing consumer protection and labor laws. The Chamber of Commerce has spent more than $1.1 million to defeat McGraw and install their puppet Dan Greear and to buy a seat on the Supreme Court for Beth Walker. We ousted Spike Maynard for being in the pocket of Don Blankenship. Are we going to let another group funded by outsiders try to buy another judge on the state's highest court?

Update

With the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce attempting to subvert democracy by dumping so much money into this race, then perhaps the people of West Virginia are going to have to strike back with a boycott of businesses belonging to the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and for businesses belonging to the Chamber opposed to these steps by the state and national organization to withdraw. It will be something for us to consider and discuss once the election is over.

Boycott (4.00 / 1)
I think a boycott might be an excellant idea.

This is disgraceful! (0.00 / 0)
What's next? The Kiwanis lobbying insurance law?
Rotarians buying ad time for union-busting?

Yes, by all means let's have some of the names, businesses, and other organizations behind the WV Chamber of Corruption...

This is nothing new, same ol, same ol (0.00 / 0)
The situation with the Chamber mimicks all of WV's problems.  We all know that the Coal Companies, Chemical Companies, Drug Companies et al OWN our state, lock stock and barrel, that's a given.  The only Dems who were under attack are the ones who are perceived to be beholden to the working people and not the owners/chamber types.  That's why Joe Manchin, Jay Rock et al are always a shoo-in since they are corporate in nature.  It has nothing to do with party affiliation though the Chamber would rather only have republicans they tolerate a few friendly Dems here and there as long as they toe the company line.
