Darrell McGraw wins!

by: Carnacki

Wed Nov 05, 2008 at 01:55:13 AM EST

West Virginians gave Darrell McGraw a narrow victory over Dan Greear despite the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and their well-funded outsiders attempting to buy Greear the office.

McGraw will get the well-deserved opportunity to continue to protect the citizens of West Virginia from corporations and businesses that do wrong. The sad thing about the Chamber of Commerce spending so much of their members' money is businesses that operate properly have nothing to fear from McGraw. So the good businesses just wasted a huge amount of money to protect bad ones.

Word from Charleston is Greear is preparing to concede.

The victories by McGraw and Margaret Workman and Menis Ketchum in the other election the Chamber of Commerce attempted to buy puts a sweet cap on a bittersweet night.

The victory for McGraw was so narrow and the Chamber of Commerce spent such a record amount of money for the race that it seems likely Greear might have won if his association with the notorious Vic Sprouse had not cost him some votes.

McGraw wins! (4.00 / 2)
There were about thirty to forty of us at McGraw's campaign headquarters way into the night watching the numbers come in. The closeness of those numbers had turned all of us into emotional wrecks, with the exception of one person; Attorney General McGraw.  He was our rock and our anchor....walking around and talking to us one or two at a time, reassuring us that it was still early, and prasing us for all our hard work. We are extremely fortunate to have this man as Attorney General.

Wow!!! What an evening. We Did It! (4.00 / 2)
I really couldn't tell you how I was feeling as I pulled into the parking garage at the Holiday Inn Express in Charleston. I don't  know if it was a feeling that I was somewhat happy the all the madness was about to end, or if I was preparing myself for something different. But the overall gut feeling was that we we're in good shape.  So, I made my way into headquarters and the mood there was electric.

The train was off and rolling, picking up leads in counties as we went.  All was going well.  When I heard the news that we were under by some 200 votes, a older gentlemen and I started crunching numbers on counties that had votes still left out there to be counted.  I'm still amazed at his analysis. On the back of a plain white envelope, he began to map out the course of the rest of the night right in front of me.

Things started to quiet down and you could tell that those in attendance were on edge a little.  But a cheer erupted from the front room of headquarters that started another up-hill swing in votes.  Right before my eyes, the older gentlemen's chicken scratch was coming true.

Then, we had gotten the call that Greear / Sprouse called to toss in the towel.  We did it.  The headquarters turned into happiness, joy and relief.

Thanks to everyone that busted their butts to support McGraw.

I would never advocate restricting free speech (0.00 / 0)
even for the so-called "Chamber of Commerce" who periodically seems to fund the attempted corporate subversion of government around these parts.

But can we at least discuss focusing a little disinfecting SUNSHINE about whose money is actually at work? I really want to know which businesses in the Mountain State that I should be boycotting...

I've searched the WV Chamber web site from one end to the other, and cannot find ANYTHING about who its members might be.  I know that information has to be somewhere.

It's members are corporate, anti-union, anti-environmental ....... (4.00 / 1)
Take anyone who is corporate in nature, anti-union philosophically, anti-environmental by choice and you have yourself a Chamber member in good standing. It really doesn't matter WHO they are just remember WHAT they are.
