Elections have consequences: who will head EPA?

This is a piece of news I almost hate to report for fear of jinxing it. Just how huge would it be to have someone already well-informed about Mountaintop Removal appointed as head of the Environmental Protection Agency?

Be still my beating heart... Robert F. Kennedy Eyed to Head EPA

President-elect Barack Obama is looking at possibly appointing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Environmental Protection Agency, according to sources familiar with the process, though he is eying several other prominent environmentalists as well.

Kennedy founded and now chairs the Waterkeeper Alliance, which promotes water quality in the U.S. and abroad, while simultaneously serving as an attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council and a professor at Pace University School of Law.

This would be HUGE (4.00 / 2)
When I saw him at Denver, RFK Jr. was VERY interested in what was happening in West Virginia and spent a few minutes speaking with me specifically about WVaBlue and how we might assist in stopping the atrocities (my word) that are occurring in our state.

Upon hearing that I was from WV, he made a point (as in walking me across the room) to introduce me to his radio co-host and collaborator Mike Papantonio.

He had some really innovative ideas about how to deal with our energy issues.  Really good stuff.

That would a HUGE appointment for WV, but I fear there would be a big backlash within our Congressional Delegation.  If it comes to pass, we will need to voice our support loudly.

In a good conversation everyone speaks.  In a great conversation some even listen.

and it's not just the EPA..... (4.00 / 3)
Clem, you are totally right. It's not just the possibilities for EPA that get people excited.  Imagine, for the first time in eight years, we may actually have an Attorney General who believes the Bill of Rights is more than a list of suggestions.

RFK Jr. criticism from the left (0.00 / 0)
I wasn't aware of RFK JR.'s stance on childhood vaccinations. It is a bit troubling and will likely cost him a cabinet seat.

I have vacinated all of my six kids (0.00 / 0)
The number of vaccinations has really jumped from the time the 26-yr old was getting them and when it was time for the 11-yr old. One in the middle was on rHGH and I opted for the thimersol-free distilled water to reconstitute the powder even back in 1990. I have only recently heard that the link of mercury to autism was not there.

RFK and his children all have a high PCB load due to the GE plant there on the Hudson. I have heard him with Greg Palast about the issue of putting vote counting in the hands of private firms, and voter caging issues. He was on the Clinton-backing side of the Kennedy family. Mr. CA thought other sins in his past would be preventative. Still want him fighting for us if at all possible, so I hope he finds a niche.
