What's your approval rating for Sen. Harry Reid?

by: Clem Guttata

According to a recent dKos/R2000 poll, Sen. Harry Reid "enjoys" a nationwide approve/disapprove/don't know rating of 33 / 41 / 26 (that's a net -8). By comparison, in the same survey Obama is +38, Pelosi +2, and the Republican congressional leadership much worse even than Reid.

Count West Virginian HH among those disapproving of Reid's leadership of the Senate.

The Senate Democrats Must Like Him (4.00 / 1)
For reasons unknown to me, the Senate Democrats must like him.

How else could he be their leader?

He hooks them up with the good hookers and blow in Vegas is my guess.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.

That was a low blow (all the puns intended) (4.00 / 1)
First elected minority leader in after the Nov 2004 defeat of Daschle 2005, there was this when it became apparent he would be majority leader:

More important to the Democrats, with their narrow majority, is Reid's propensity for negotiation and compromise.

This must have been what they thought was needed at the time. He has been in the Senate since 1986.

anti-abortion, pro-death penalty and opposes same-sex marriage and gun control

He is a populist. Who could have predicted?

Maybe this could be a sunny day (4.00 / 1)
Reid whoops 'em!

First he wins his first cloture test, then he hits one out of the park on the organizing resolution!

Yes, credit where credit is due, everyone. Harry Reid appears to have won the organizing resolution stand-off.

A character in Casino is based, in part, on Reid as a member of the Nevada Gaming Commission. Bayh was nonsensical about letting Joe still have that particular gavel. Once the organizing resolution was passed they need the Republicans to pass another one. But realizing they were 5 down on Appropriations with defeats and retirements made the dynamic very different.

I hear a character in Love Story is based in part on Al Gore and look where that got him.

for not hiring the lawyers Al Franken is using to beat George Bush's old lawyers from 2000 in the recount and contest. And the Emmy, and the Oscar, and the Nobel Prize.
