'Mastering the Incredible Adjustable Houle Hoop!'

Many of us will enjoy this since we had many of the same criticisms of him.

The comments get really funny here when he tries to claim he didn't read the diary. Don't miss this one either.

update: Since DHinMI was the one who did the most harm pushing bigotry against Appalachia, this is a good place to put this 538 analysis that It's not about Appalachia which blows away Houle's posts about Obama's "Appalachia problem."

P.S. I like these scatterplots, but I think the maps are useful too, in particular for shooting down the story that whites in Appalachia were particularly anti-Obama.

Facts don't fit in the Houle Hoop.

Oh what fun! Is this a new flaming-pie war? (4.00 / 2)
It's a relief to see so many other people have issues with how he approaches any critique of his diaries/comments. (Note that I said "critique," not "criticism" - a subtle but very important distinction.)

For all those West Virginians who've been dismissed by Dana in the past but still hang in there, vindication and reinforcements!

last time we "discussed" a topic (4.00 / 1)
The last time Mr Houle and I "discussed" a topic, he ended it by saying he "was bored." That was my best indication yet that he couldn't be bothered to engage in my direct critique of what he'd written.

There was another comment lower in the thread that nailed him.

I don't stalk Dana's comments or ratings (16+ / 0-)

But when I do run into them and follow the conversation it usually ends up as a dismissal on his part or no acknowledgment of the effort someone may have made to engage in reasoned discourse.

My take is that he is an exceptionally bright individual with a remarkable degree of narcissism that renders all opinions that don't match his own as next to irrelevant. He doesn't really care or understand about community outside of the obvious gratification it gives him to have people pay attention to him. I even suspect it tickles his fancy that you continue to read his comments despite his childish avoidance of discourse with you.

He stated in one of the recent "Accept" diaries that he really enjoys the friends, detractors and even "enemies" he encounters at Dkos, but I don't sense much, if any meaningful respect for anyone other than himself. Because of that I'd agree that he doesn't make for a worthy FP'r except perhaps to drive web traffic up.

At what cost? Only Kos can decide. For myself, I'll continue to read all reasoned comments on any subject that interests and hope to learn what I can and throw out my infinite wisdom here and there and watch it pared way back to finite or less.

Keep up the good fight to seek common ground SD, and thanks for it.

No, it wasn't me, but that sounds very similar to what I said except I think DHinMI's intelligence and political skills are highly overrated. His candidate barely won in a CD that went 66-33 for Obama.

There was another diary on Thursday 9APR (4.00 / 1)
by FishOutofWater titled Accept that some DailyKos front pagers are jerks, a rapid fire response to the DHinMI diary on the subject Accept That Not Everyone at Daily Kos is a Democrat, where Dana was regularly called a girl, and he laid out his four principles of why he is always right, that SD took apart.

Seneca Doane, someone I read on a fairly regular basis, is in the last year of law school, lately concentrated on the NY-20 special election. Lawyer vs philosophy major, huh?

Why is Dana portrayed as so brilliant? If his people skills seems to be lacking, that's not so smart. Passive aggressive comes to mind.

no idea on the brilliant part (4.00 / 1)
Okay, yes, I do have one idea on the brilliant part. Because Dana is a front pager at a prominent website some people automatically assume he must have above average something. Since it is so obviously not social skills, it must be "brilliance", eh?

As I said, it's only a idea. I don't see the "brilliance" myself. As an example, his election analysis pales in comparison to several others I've linked to here.

I don't read enough comments at dKos any more to generalize about his interactions with others. But, in the cases where he's responded to my comments he's demonstrated a lack of empathy and a lack of logical consistency.

Macomb County, Mich. allowed to play with the Adjustable Houle Hoop (4.00 / 2)
I was glad to see the county map from Nate's place again, with the former CSA Cotton Belt colored mostly bright Rebel Red, and pointed our in March by remingtonsteel and wvablue

DHinMI links back to his own work from 2008 to claim again that Appalachians migrated to all the other places with bias against Obama, except where they did not.

the Ozark region of Missouri and Arkansas, on Okalahoma and the southern Plains, on North Texas, and eventually they were a big part of the initial growth of Southern California.

That fits in with his generalization hoop (4.00 / 1)
Honestly that type of stereotyping and poorly researched writing - remember, he's the same one who didn't know of any African Americans elected from here nor of Nick Rahall being chairman of the Arab American caucus - is the kind of thing that should be hooted off Daily Kos, but since he's one of the New Villagers, the others rallied round or ignored his problem.
