Mapping the electorate: unhappiness and economic hardship

Does this map look familiar?

It's a map of unhappiness.

There's some definite similarities to the 2008 to 2004 vote shifts voting by county (choose vote shift option):

And, there's some similarities to this one (head to The Monkey Cage's Economic Hardship and the 2008 Presidential Vote for the details)

That's the varying impact of unemployment on voting changes between 2008 and 2004.

The path from Oklahoma to West Virginia doesn't line up exactly on all three maps but it is close enough to make me wonder if there's something going there.
