Wankers of the Day

Constitutional Scholar Surber tries to prove that Judge Sotomayor has disqualified herself by linking to Volokh who concludes she is

explaining the difference between the district court and the court of appeals.

There was the imitation of a Jesse Helm's commercial. Mark Halperin pretends his opinion still matters and wastes pixels on the intertubes before getting to the only one that will matter. Remember, this will be very good for John McCain.

complaints (4.00 / 1)
The "right" is going to complain no matter who Obama picks so he might as well pick someone who is unabashedly a liberal. Alas, I think Obama's personality is such he's not going to.

Still, I think his first pick will be a woman or Hispanic (or both) and will be a decent replacement for Souter. Obama will probably get one more pick this term and at least one more if he serves a second term.

Meteor Blades diary on the torture timeline (0.00 / 0)
Torture News Roundup: Evidence & Excuses linked to Suber's piece on Churchill and torture at Kensington. In that Strawman tried to revive the faux February controversy of Obama returning the loaned bust of Churchill to the British, and, in the only redecorating he has done of the Oval Office, moving in a bust of Lincoln.

The right also seems to be using Churchill did it too as the latest justification for torture. I usually like to watch Washington Week to catch Nina Totenberg, Colby King and Mark Shields. The downside is Dr. Krauthammer. I could not stomach the idea this weekend.

I think Stevens may well retire during Obama'a first term due to his age. Cruel things have already been said about Justice Ginsberg's health. Both Kennedy and Scalia are both three years younger than my mom.

Ford's wiki page does not mention Justice William O. Douglas, but just the opposite is true on Douglas's wiki page. Once again, the ugly head of Nixon using the full force of government against an individual for personal reasons raises it's head, not the Ford believes it as his speech on Tea Bag Day 1970 shows. This may have been the beginning of the politicization of the bench since most of Ford's complaints were about Douglas's reading material.

I do not remember much coverage in 1970 on the West Coast about Gerald Ford's unsuccessful attempt to impeach William O. Douglas. I remember Justice Douglas as someone who loved the C&O Canal Towpath even from his wheelchair. But then I am a hippie-yippie. And Ford pardoned Nixon. Thanks, Jerry.
