Gov. Manchin's Reverse Robin-Hood Tax is Back on Table

by: Clem Guttata

Via Coal Tattoo, I see the transmission tax for high-voltage power lines is back on the Gov.'s special session legislative agenda.

Reverse Robin Hood Transmission Tax

Have you ever heard of a tax that guarantees power company profits? Well, this is one.

For every $100.00 the government gets from this transmission tax, consumers pay $114.30 and the power company profits increase $14.30.

The Power Line blog is the go-to place for coverage of this awful tax. This most recent post is a good place to start.

Not so fast Clem (4.00 / 3)
I read that article in the Gazette too but it's still a little early to say it will end up on the agenda.  Nobody really likes it except the governor and we know that ten other governors don't like it at all.

Vigilance pays off! (4.00 / 3)
Yes, indeed, it appears that the bill is not going to be on the special session agenda. Here's an update via FB (last night) from Delegate Tim Miley:

Tim Miley at 8:40pm May 28
The energy transmission tax bill will NOT be on the call for the special session, at least as of 400 pm today-based upon a meeting that I attended in Speaker Thompson's office.

So, at some point yesterday the Speaker must have let the Gov. know there still isn't enough support for this bill to pass and then they agreed it was pointless to put on the agenda.

Gov. Manchin's continued enthusiasm for this bill shows the need for vigilance in educating our legislators about opposition to this bill and on other energy policy issues.

Ken Ward reports on Coal Tattoo (0.00 / 0)
this morning that the power line tax does not appear on the Gov's official agenda for the extended session.  Here's the link to the agenda.  http://www.wvgov.org/sec.aspx?...

So far so good, but it ain't over yet.

thanks for the update (0.00 / 0)
And, thank you for all your continued activism on this issue.

Are you familiar with Google Power Meter? I think that's something utilities should also be looking at for even further conservation gains.

I have no idea if any of the area has iTron smart meters already installed or not... even if not, that's got to be a more cost effective investment.
