From an email:

Labor Day is an important day in West Virginia and across the country.  Founded in 1882 by the dedication of the American labor movement, and made a federal holiday in 1884, Labor Day is a celebration of the American worker.  In West Virginia we have long remembered and celebrated this day with events spanning many generations.

We're getting reports that workers are being told they'll be paid to attend Don Blankenship's rally to hear anti environmental and anti union messages.

They aren't called barons for nothing (4.00 / 1)
There are many kinds of destruction that coal causes besides the environmental, including destroying communities by controlling every aspect of the workers' lives.  Massey especially is known for expecting its workers to behave off the job or lose it.  They have had trouble recruiting and maintaining workers because of that - having to pay to get people to attend the rally may be yet another symptom they're losing it...

Information about the UMWA's Labor Day Event (4.00 / 2)
Check out the UMWA's statement about our Labor Day event here: http://tinyurl.com/lgvesd. Anyone who is interested in celebrating and supporting working families and the contribution we make to our communities (isn't that what Labor Day is all about?) should come on down to Racine.

Sorry, tiny URL doesn't work here, I guess. Try this:

Thanks for posting the link.

TinyURL works, it was the period after the URL that caused the problem. The auto URL expander magic thought that was part of the address, too.

Thanks, Clem. I'm just an old ___ trying to figure all this new technology out.

Where is Kenny Purdue gonna go? (0.00 / 0)
The MTR apologist will have a tough time deciding where his bread is buttered on labor day.  He led the effort to have a Young Dems resolution against MRT shot down during the Dem convention last year, let's hope he feels the betrayal and attends the Racine rally instead of ol Don's big giveaway rally, he's actually paying his employees to show up in force for the educational opportunity...how desperate is that?
