Big Daddy Sen. Robert C. Byrd

Anne Barth for U.S. Senate?

Clem writes on the suspicions of many of us that the Draft Anne Barth for WV-02 race is being pushed behind the scenes by the Republican puppet master: convicted felon and former Gov. Arch Moore (father of current Rep. Shelley Moore Capito). That way he could split Democrats in WV-02 to weaken the candidate facing his daughter in '08.

Bow Tie Boy at the State Journal writes of people already lining up to succeed Sen. Robert C. Byrd should he retire soon.

After successfully drafting State Sen. John Unger to run for WV-02, I'm going to throw out this: Barth as a potential successor for Byrd should he retire before finishing his term. To me, it makes good sense. She's been Byrd's statewide coordinator. It would further diversify the U.S. Senate by adding another woman - a move that can only make Gov. Joe Manchin more popular with women voters in West Virginia.

Many who know Barth speak highly of her work for Byrd.

What will be interesting to see is whether the Republicans who have touted Barth's qualifications for Congress jump on this draft movement.

Anne Barth Dream Team for Senate (4.00 / 2)

I can seen Barth's campaign team for Byrd's seat now:

Gary Abernathy as Campaign Manager - He's so pro-Barth for Congress, I can't imagine why the Republican Abernathy wouldn't want to see Anne in the U.S. Senate.

Maria Lorensen as Press Secretary - after all, sorority sisters have to stick together. Once a sorostitute, always a sorostitute.

Chris Stirewalt as Political Advisor - Seems as if Stirewalt knows politics really well, what with his suggestion that Manchin would appoint a Democrat to the Senate should Byrd leave office. I'm sure he could provide Barth with some really sound political advice.

Vic Sprouse as Finance Director - With the millions Sprouse racks up with his fitness centers, I'm sure he could contribute a few bucks to the Anne Barth for U.S. Senate campaign. Plus, every campaign needs a little controversy, and I'm thinking Sprouse is just the guy for that - if cheating on every woman you've married and neglecting to support your very sick child are any indication.

Byrd's Staff Pushing Anne (4.00 / 1)

It's no secret that Byrd is not well ...

Here's a link to the latest Byrd story that was written by the Associated Press and appeared in the Charleston Gazette:
 http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19244597/

It's also no secret that with Byrd's heath failing, his staff has been rumored to be pushing Anne to run for Congress so that everyone is kept intact when Byrd leaves office.

I think it's safe to say that this article only reinforces that rumor. Just as the article mentions Byrd's staffers whispering in his ear to get him to respond to other Senators, I'm sure staffers have also been whispering in Anne's ear about a run for Congress.

It's a shame that a man as powerful as Byrd is now being coerced and manipulated by his staffers. It's also a shame that Byrd's staffers are so power hungry they are looking for their next move before Byrd even leaves office.

Where's the loyalty there?
