Papantonio discusses climate change fraud

Whether it's the failed rock DJs on rightwing radio screaming, Don Blankenship twittering or their fanboys at the Charleston Daily Mail blogging, chances are you've heard the conservative attempts to distort allegedly hacked e-mails and spin them into an imaginary scandal called "Climategate."

Rush Limbaugh, for instance, is now bizarrely comparing climate scientists to tobacco executives.
(Nevermind the fact that Rush, always on the wrong side of science, used to regularly claim cigarettes didn't cause cancer.)

Needless to say, the non-story has been debunked and the right is full of it as usual.

This projection attempt by conservatives to paint the world's scientific community as agents of disinformation is just the latest in a lengthy effort to reframe the discussion of climate change.

Mike Papantonio of Air America Radio's "Ring of Fire" recently interviewed James Hoggan, a public relations expert and author of the book "Climate Cover-Up."  Hoggan outlined how the stated goal of those in the coal and oil industries (allied with the folks who brought you tobacco scientists), was not to convince the public that climate change doesn't exist, but to simply create confusion that a debate still exists among legitimate scientists.

Ultimately, this confusion would lead to inaction.

Hoggan and Papantonio tell how this effort, with the help of a complicit media, is succeeding and making an impact in public perception of the issue.

Listen for a special mention of Don-a-pollute-za entertainer Lord Monckton's contribution to this ongoing campaign of fraud.

And speaking of "Ring of Fire", here's a bonus video of Papantonio's co-host, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., at a March 2009 Powershift rally in D.C., giving us his thoughts on "clean coal" and telling how Massey Energy's Don Blankenship and friends are robbing West Virginia of jobs and resources.

Be sure to attend when Kennedy joins local activists on Monday at the rally to save Coal River Mountain.

hell, given his distate for anything corporate i am surprised his lawfirm recognizes any formal corporate structure at all

You remember Lincoln, right? (4.00 / 2)
The qui tam part is sometimes called Lincoln's lawSomething about military contractors ripping of the Union. Whistle blower protection.

We know you dislike people. You know, those pesky people the Constitution keeps mentioning. Created in God's image. One can hide behind corporations. Perfect corporations. All the paperwork in order. Real humans are so messy, so flawed.

hide behind corporations...and mike p knows that and so do you

stevewvu, ask for the money back on the "advanced degree". (0.00 / 0)
that statement is total ignorance or just a big fat lie on purpose. hiding behind a corporation can be the reason an individual will incorporate. why do many doctors incorporate their individual practice? i know that the laws governing incorporation papers are different state to state, but a blanket statement? we were talking about a lawyer from another state. take a good look at wyoming, delaware or nevada. you are ignoring that individual assets and financial privacy are hidden, and that tax deductions and rates are different.

you really do live in a parallel universe inhabited by pixies and elves.

thousands dead, 25 years later still no one prosecuted (4.00 / 1)
Bophal MIC disaster is a timely example.

Thousands (if not tens of thousands) have died as a result of this industrial accident. No individual has been prosecuted.

If an individual did something like that, even accidentally, it would be negligent homicide and they'd be rotting away in prison.

The corporation had no material penalties (in fact, it only paid out its insurance sum). Meanwhile, estimates are that hundreds of thousands of people are suffering from effects of chemical exposure.

geez you really dont understand... (0.00 / 0)
an individual is always liable for his or her wrongful acts whether they are committed personally or as an agent or representative of a corporation...

So when Dick Cheney's WR Grace hurt people with asbestos he is personally responsible? (0.00 / 0)
He knew the facts. Don't make me laugh so hard!
I'll go with Clem. She is right about Bopal.

being liable (0.00 / 0)
and being held accountable for it are two different things...ask the massey employee who fudged the mine saftey records prior to the aracoma fire...

Dick and Don hid behind their corporation (0.00 / 0)
Did Mr. Barnacle of the Constitution cover the health care costs of those hurt by asbestos fibers even though Dick knew the problems with the mine and the substance when under his CEOship Haliburton bought WR Grace? Nope.

I don't feel any better that the Massey employee got busted when it was company policy to put production above everything else as internal emails showed.

i stand (0.00 / 0)
by my previous comment, just because one breaks the law doesnt mean they get charged...just because your liable doesnt mean you suffer the consequences...your comment that people can hid behind corporations for their indiviual lawlessness is wrong...ask ken lay or jeff skilling....ask don blankenship who couldnt get out of the aracoma lawsuit on summary judgment...but for whatever the reason your target du jour hasnt been charged or implicated in something is not because he or she hid behind a corporation...
