- Consol lays off 500 workers, tells people to blame OVEC. Ken Ward takes a closer look.

- Speaking at Massey's Christmas extravaganza Saturday, Don Blankenship got into the holiday spirit by referring to Senator Byrd as "naive" and said EPA stand for  'Equal Poverty for All."

-Steve Roberts of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce can't understand why our senators think it's "beyond foolish" to hold health care reform hostage for the coal barons.

- Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s speech is now online:

hurrah for WVU students (4.00 / 1)
They're not all as hard-headed as st-... well, let's just say there's some WVU students who are looking to clean up the image of the school: WVU students protest dirty coal money donations

Blame the messenger (4.00 / 1)
why don't cha?  They are such deniers of culpability, they keep the lights on so they are entitled to pollute...what...I can't handle this battle myself so I'll enlist the help of hapless labor unions..they don't even realize they are being used so why not?  Merry Christmas from Consol...sorry but you're officially laid off due to them thar environmentalists....that's it, that's the ticket....pretty soon everyone will remember that we kept the lights on and that we hate environmentalists and then everyone will hate environmentalists too.... and pretty soon we'll be back raping the land again through explosions and stream burials until we run plumb out of all the extractive land that WV has left.....then we'll move on to another country...and then another....until...????  Got water?

Federal judge halts work on Greenbrier wind farm (4.00 / 4)
http://wvgazette.com/News/2009...

You know, until we can come to some kind of agreement on these issues we not going anywhere.  There are some long term environmentalists working to oppose wind energy.

You can check a time line on Beech Ridge at Wiki.

There must be consistency (0.00 / 0)
throughout the permitting process no matter what you are trying to do with the pristine ridges and valleys of our state.  For too long coal has had a pass and now we see a wind permit getting even greater scrutiny than a strip mining project but in the end we need to have the same set of standards for everyone.  The best wind opportunities in this country are off shore, period....that's where the wind actually blows most all the time, best bang for the buck.  We also know that a wind farm is superior to an MTR site any day unless you are directly impacted but the best result would be to LEAVE IT ALONE altogether and that we can ALL agree on.
