Good afternoon, WV Blue readers. This is your afternoon open thread to discuss all things Hill-related. Use this thread to praise or bash Congresscritters, share a juicy tip, ask questions, offer critiques and suggestions, or post manifestos.

As always, this is a crosspost from Congress Matters. This is the most important news of the day... okay, maybe only some of it. So if you disagree, go watch CSPAN, the banks still own the place. Omnibus passed the House but there was no agreement in the Senate, so watch your government in neutral on CSPAN2.

Here's some of my own thoughts, shorterTM version today.

If you don't like them come to Drinking Liberally Friday, 11 DEC, 8:00PM, Peking Restaurant, Martinsburg, WV. Talk among yourselves. I might be a little late due to a previous commitment. Then you can tell me to my face!

Just deal with it, Clarence. It was a unanimous decision, ferrcrissake.
Pay attention to the last paragraph and then duck as heads fly by.

Jim DeMint R-SC and Robert Byrd D-WV are the two poorest senators.
One is our senator. The other one is terrifyingly short of serious thought.

This may have been Sen. Sanders I-VT first attempt at a hold.
One thumb up and three thumbs down. I'll make you guess.

Sen. Max Baucus D-MT promised CBO numbers on anything before a final vote.
This probably means Leader Reid will not keep his promise to work weekends.

The House started debating the rule for debate on a one financial reform bill.
Six conservative Democrats and Rep. Kaptur D-OH-09 joined all the GOP against the rule.

Merry Festivus. Local charities and food banks have noticed.
Several people stopped working the tightrope without a net.

Rep. Steve King R-IA-01 sees things in those White House cookies.
For many Americans, traditional cookies include crescents and stars.

They are frustrated? Nobody could have foreseen.

"A woman's place is in the House, and the Senate"

Rep. Melacon D-LA-03 wants to know Sen. Vitter's R-LA Medicaid position.
I think that is about the 2010 race, and does not involve green balloons.

you can tell I am doing too much stuff my the first verison of this (0.00 / 0)
Rep. Kucinich announced a few minutes ago that he will offer a resolution the House, and I suspect that it will be a privileged resolution, to require a vote of the Afghanistan War under the War Powers Act. It will also cover operations in Pakistan.

It will then be referred to the Committee on International Relations., Chair Berman, to be reported back out. He offered other ones that the House leadership short circuited last Congress. I am dusting off the cobwebs how.

Can't make it tonight (4.00 / 1)
StopPATH has a float in tomorrow's Christmas Parade in Harpers Ferry, and volunteers are meeting tonight to put the finishing touches on it.

If it's any consolation, I'll be drinking liberally anyhow ... (hic!)

Would anybody be interested in an unheard-of mid-week DL during the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, so we can lay the social groundwork for 2010?
