- Randy Huffman's DEP is thinking about allowing CONSOL to discharge into Dunkard Creek again (because it went so well the last time)

- One of my favorite local writers, Joseph Wyatt, had a good piece in the Gazette last week that's still worth checking out

- 81-year-old Roland Micklem's fast to protest MTR has entered its 10 day.

- The new head of the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement outlines outlines his approach to MTR.

Dunkard Creek (4.00 / 1)
Thanks for reminding everyone The Death of Dunkard Creek didn't just happen all in a sudden out of the blue.

Still no mention in Wheeling "news"papers (0.00 / 0)
But that would require Mike Myer and Ogden Nutting telling the truth rather than their truthiness.

well (1.00 / 1)
if the total dissolved solids which allegedly caused the alge bloom are otherwise within limits, and the experts say that limiting discharge to the winter months when the alge will not bloom, then whats the problem?

the law... (4.00 / 1)
Funny how you are willing to give Consol the benefit of the doubt to continue breaking the law--their TDS discharges are in violation of set regulatory limits--but you put the word "allegedly" in front of a well established fact that these algae blooms can only occur at high TDS levels.

Someone with the ability to reflect for just a moment on what is written in the sentence: "if the total dissolved solids which allegedly caused the alge bloom are otherwise within limits, and the experts say that limiting discharge to the winter months when the alge will not bloom, then whats the problem?" might find the answer to the question within the question.

(Hint: which limits? The legal limits, or just the ones that we know led to millions and millions and millions and millions and... of dollars of damage.)
