A bi-partisan effort by two female senators Cantwell and Collins, promises to assist the efforts of renewable, sustainable energy projects.  This represents a marked difference from previous bills.  The best thing about it is that it's only 39 pages as introduced (PDF), lets see how many are added as a result of fossil interference.

The latest handicapping is the house energy/climate bill is DOA in the Senate. As long as there is a 60 vote requirement to pass a bill, it's not going to happen.

The Cantwell/Collins bill may or may not be any better than cap-and-trade. There's lots of pros and cons to both approaches. I just don't see where it is going to get 60 votes, either.

The Senate is broken.

The "goodies" part of the bill will still pass under the guise of a jobs/stimulus package, but cap-and-trade is dead.

It's up to the EPA now to do its job. As we've seen from Clean Water Act enforcement, the regulation of green-house gases via Clean Air Act is going to be a long slow process.

Register-Herald letters get desperate (0.00 / 0)
With the dropout rate the schools are experiencing, I would be glad to see, even you, come to the classroom, although I disagree with your viewpoints. That is something else we teach in our classroom, the freedom to make choices, guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America. Students have the right to decide if coal is something they wish to pursue. I would suggest to you, to stay out of the classroom, and let the educational system handle what is appropriate for our students.

As a teacher, I cannot think of teaching about the beginning of our state without mentioning coal. It deals with our movement toward economic solvency and the development of a variety of industries in our state. It deals with the union movement.

"freedom to make choices" (4.00 / 4)
So... "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" means "freedom to make choices"?

Okay, I sure hope that same letter writer is just as vocal about the value of informing all students (in age appropriate ways) about their choices ahead in life regarding expression of gender roles, reproductive freedoms and sexuality.

Also, I wasn't aware that coal was "something [you] wish to pursue." That sounds a whole lot like saying it is a lifestyle choice or something... where can I go to opt out of the coal lifestyle? (Is there a ministry somewhere that offers coal deprogramming therapy?)
