Candidate filing deadline is midnight tonight.

Right now the area with all the most action is Mon County where the 44th House seat is attracting lots of folks and the 13th Senate seat is, too.

The latest rumor for 13th Senate (via TP on Facebook):

Beach is now filing for 13th district, I believe Fleuschauer will now be staying and running for 44th.

That's just a rumor. Fleuschauer has filed for both the 13th and 44th... I don't know what the process is for her to withdraw from one or the other.

Secretary of State Natalie Tennant's office has made it even easier to follow along with the action this cycle. Here's the link to watch for new filings.

Use this as an open thread to discuss candidates and races all across the state.

Update: Many of us are expecting Democrat turned Republican former state supreme court justice and Don Blankenship vacation buddy "Spike" Maynard to file as a Republican candidate for WV-03 today. Because of the timing of his party switch, today is the only day Maynard can file as a candidate.

run Spike run (4.00 / 2)
I will enjoy watching you get clobbered again. I would love for Congressman Rahall to get the honor, but Spike may not even make it out of the GOP primary. They have 3 guys already in the race

Looks like Fleischauer won't run (0.00 / 0)
She's posted for the 44th, but Bob Beach is listed for the Senate 13th.

It's official: Oliverio to Challenge Mollohan (4.00 / 2)
I have a feeling there's a lot about Mike Oliverio you don't know and even more about Mike Oliverio you won't like. More to come.

Here's a preview: What does Mike Oliverio have in common with Paul Weyrich (Heritage Foundation), Jesse Helms, and John Kasich?

See my other post asking if Oliverio (4.00 / 1)
is running as a R or D.  I don't know why anyone would be surprised, he's run for statewide office and he is very upfront about his postiions.  He is constantly trying to change the state platform.

Worry not (4.00 / 1)
There are some beautiful tidbits of information that West Virginia's Democrats don't really know about Oliverio. It'll come out in due time.

Hint (0.00 / 0)
Come on, give me another hint.

not that there's anything wrong with that (4.00 / 1)
If you're trying to imply that he's a closeted gay, that's not something that would bother me at all.

Well, unless he was adamantly anti-equality, then the hypocrisy might bother me. But, still, what he does on his own time is his own business.

Finally up on SOS site:

Mike Oliverio
Legal Name: Michael Angelo Oliverio, III Democrat Monongalia
District/Circuit 1 Morgantown, WV Mailing Address:
1437 Anderson Ave Morgantown WV 26505 1/30/2010

Mollohan now has a Democratic primary challenger who has held elected office before. That's a major change from running unopposed last cycle.

Warning: Whg. paper endorses Oliverio (4.00 / 1)
This should be a warning to any progressive Democrat in West Virginia.

http://www.theintelligencer.ne...

P.S. Mike Myer really f-d up today. He ran a front page story (above the fold) in tonight's News-Register which stated a recent car accident victim had died. The victim is still alive. The Wheeling newspaper's website has scrubbed any appearance of running the erroneous story and has blocked all website comments on the matter.

rather quick to endorse (4.00 / 1)
That's an amazingly quick endorsement. At least they've given us all a heads up on what their coverage of the race might look like.

You are right... it's hard to think of a much bigger screw-up you can have as a local paper.

The warning signal... (4.00 / 1)
From Mike Myer's blog:

Oliverio is worried about coal, the national debt, TRUE health care reform and other issues on which incumbent Rep. Alan Mollohan has let Mountain State residents down.

Myer fails to mention that Oliverio is an insurance industry agent.
