More out-of-state scumbags take to W.Va. airwaves

Following last week's launch of anti-Democratic attacks by the prostitute-loving Dick Morris (who admitted his commercials were full of factual errors), a new group of rightwingers is airing "issue ads" against Rahall and Mollohan.

This week, the West Virginia Republicans can count on help from the American Future Fund.

A quick look into the past of the future fund shows it's made up of the expected Lee Atwater disciples:

Some of the folks behind AFF:

- Former spokesman for the House GOP in Iowa, Tim Albrecht, who also worked on Mitt Romney's failed presidential campaign.

- Ben Ginsburg, legal counsel for the group. You'll remember Ginsburg as chief outside counsel for the Bush Cheney campaign in 2004. He, of course, had to resign his position when it was revealed he was advising the Swift Boat smear effort and contradicting the Bush campaign's claim that they had nothing to do with "outside" attacks on Sen. John Kerry.

- and Larry McCarthy, media strategist for the group - best known for producing the racist-as-hell Willie Horton ad for Bush Sr.'s campaign against Gov. Michael Dukakis in 1988.

So, to review, we now have groups tied to the Swift Boat Liars, the Chambliss ad, Willie Horton and the 'white hands" spot lining up to help the opponents of Rahall and Mollohan.

And it's only March - a sure-fire sign a classy campaign will be coming from conservatives in the next 8 months.

Here's a picture of the GOP operatives in their undersea lair, hard at work on the next ad:

And here's the new 30-second spot - cheesy narration, tired rightwing memes, misinformation and all:

Thank the American Future Fund (4.00 / 1)
I visited the American Future Fund website and thanked them for running their ad. I told them how I was contacting my Congressman and Senators to "Start over" and include the public option or Medicare for all in the Health reform bill.

Thanks. That is a very interesting response. (0.00 / 0)
Since 1994 the Congress has done pieces, little nibbles at the edges. I have insurance and like many my deductible went up 25 fold since 1994. Wish my wages had kept up with the pace of medical inflation!

I have insurance, but you still end up with medical debt for simple klutzy fall and break a bone accidents or kids playing hard like kids do and needing stitches. I really don't understand why basic care in this country is not a right.

I like the idea of a public option like Medicare buy-in for all without starting over, too.

HR4789 is deficit-neutral and can be done in addition to other HCR the House/Senate have already passed. Alan Grayson recently introduced the bill.

Realistically, it probably won't get far this year, but is one those bills worth building support for now and pushing even harder in future sessions.

Believe it or not, the king of wingnut radio has wholeheartedly endorsed universal health care. (0.00 / 0)
Drug addicted failed sportscaster and titular head of the GOP Rush Limbaugh publicly announced this week that he'll likely be traveling to Costa Rica for all his major medical needs.

According to Zaid Jilani over at ThinkProgress,

What is ironic about Limbaugh - who has ranted about the dangers of "socialized health care" for years - seeking health care in Costa Rica is that the country has a hybrid government-private health care system that provides comprehensive universal coverage to all of its residents. The government owns several major public hospitals and operates small clinics in almost every community. Workers are required to contribute 15% of their salaries to health insurance and the unemployed "obtain public funding for all health services, including prescription drugs." Most Costa Ricans obtain their health care through a public plan called the Caja - similar to our Medicare or the proposed public option.

Costa Rica's system of universal coverage is so effective that it actually ranks one slot above the United States in the World Health Organization's ranking of health systems worldwide while actually spending less per capita than we do.

He'll likely be headed back to the Domincan Republic for his "other" needs.
