'Why not West Virginia?'

Almost basketball heaven.

West Virginia is in it to win it. And here, in perhaps the craziest NCAA tournament of all time, why not West Virginia, why not these Mountaineers?

You come from a place like West Virginia and you're always being told what you can't do. It's too rural, too poor, too, well, too just West Virginian. If you're going to succeed you have to leave, go off to somewhere bigger and fancier. It's how it's worked for generations. The possibilities are limited at home, limitless away. So off they go - many of the best and brightest seeking success elsewhere even as they carry their home state pride with them forever.

It's not coal that is West Virginia's greatest export. It's people.

So now comes Huggins, son of West Virginians, born in West Virginia, a graduate of West Virginia and he's puffing out his chest and saying the exact opposite.

There isn't anything West Virginia can't do, he says. And we're going to do it from right here at home.

Huggins deserves Coach of the Year 2010 (4.00 / 1)
I will go ahead and put in my two cents for coach Huggs to get the prestigious award of Coach of the Year in college basketball for this season, the season of change in America.  I agree with Carnacki, Why not WV?  We have been there through the years to compete with the best on the biggest stages and only to have come up short but not without much effort, sacrifice, and good sportsmanship (couch burning aside in Morgantown).  Coach Huggs has molded a group of men from all over the east coast to become a cohesive unit capable of winning it all.  He has taught the students to behave in the stands, classrooms, and in their dorms.  He has encouraged his atheletes to perform in the classroom as well as on the basketball court.  I think he deserves all the credit in the world and I will be rooting for our Mountaineers to win it all in Indy this weekend.  Are we too cynical to participate in this time of greatness?
