Metro News reports that Massey supervisors are set to plead guilty on July 20 to charges stemming from the 2006 fire that killed miners Don Bragg and Elvis Hatfield.
The four are alleged to have failed to conduct required safety drills at the Aracoma Coal Alma No. 1 mine.
You'll remember this tragedy as the one that disgraced judge Elliott "Spike" Maynard was laughing it up about in an e-mail to his vacation buddy, Massey CEO Don Blankenship.
Commenting about the law firm of Menis Ketchum's website, specifically the part detailing work on mine safety:
Maynard: "This one you gotta see - Aracoma is mentioned - you could have prevented it if you had only operated the mine properly according to Menis."
It will be interesting to see if anyone in the local media bothers to ask the scandal-plagued Republican candidate to explain this, rather than simply reprinting his bazillionth hysterical press release whining about Nancy Pelosi and the supposed War on CoalTM.
And check out more of Spike and Don's correspondence over at the Gazette.
