Senate Democrats abandon climate change bill

Washington Post:
Conceding they can't find enough votes for the measure, Senate Democrats on Thursday abandoned efforts to put together a comprehensive energy bill that would seek to limit greenhouse gas emissions, delivering a potentially fatal blow to a proposal Democrats have long touted and President Obama campaigned on.

Does this mean the never-existed-in-the-first-place "War on Coal"TM is off?

nope (4.00 / 2)
You do realize the scientists were vindicated and, just like ACORN, the New Black Panthers and Sherrod, the whole thing was another fake scandal concocted for FOX ratings?

Did Goodwin abandon the Byrd legacy (0.00 / 0)
by not being counted on to vote FOR cap and trade?  Keeping the seat warm for MOJO, wouldn't want to upset his former boss.

Back in reality, climategate retraction (0.00 / 0)
Because Zombieland lies are so hard to kill, it's worth reminding everyone over and over and over again.... there was nothing to the story. The original reporting was retracted, Newspapers Retract 'Climategate' Claims, but Damage Still Done.

But not only did British investigators clear the East Anglia scientist at the center of it all, Phil Jones, of scientific impropriety and dishonesty in April, an investigation at Penn State cleared PSU climatologist Michael Mann of "falsifying or suppressing data, intending to delete or conceal e-mails and information, and misusing privileged or confidential information" in February. In perhaps the biggest backpedaling, The Sunday Times of London, which led the media pack in charging that IPCC reports were full of egregious (and probably intentional) errors, retracted its central claim-namely, that the IPCC statement that up to 40 percent of the Amazonian rainforest could be vulnerable to climate change was "unsubstantiated." The Times also admitted that it had totally twisted the remarks of one forest expert to make it sound as if he agreed that the IPCC had screwed up, when he said no such thing.

It would be much easier for all of us if climate change did not exist.

It would be much easier for all of us if this summer's hot spell was not part of a trend of several hottest year's on record in the past decade.

It would be much easier for all of us if West Virginia didn't have so much economic reliance on a resource that is a root cause of climate change.

But, back here in reality the only planet we are able to live on is suffering from a fever, our society collectively has its head in the sand, and we still need to clean up our atmosphere.

I'm not giving up. I think there's a good chance for filibuster reform in Jan, 2011 and then a better climate bill will pass the House and Senate in the new Congress.
