Why should the Dem. and GOP primary have all the fun? The WV-SEN general election now promises to be at least a three-way contest, too.

Jesse Johnson

Mountain Party Candidate to File for Senate

Charleston, WV - Former WV Mountain Party gubernatorial candidate, Jesse Johnson will be filing to run for the unexpired term of US Senator Robert C. Byrd in the special primary election set for August 28th.

Johnson ran as the party's gubernatorial candidate in 2004 and 2008 and as a candidate for US Senate in 2006.

Johnson is running to give WV voters an alternative to politics as usual and protect their constitutional rights as well as the protection of our precious Air, Water, and Mountains here in the Mountain State.

The WV Mountain Party affiliated with the national US Green Party in 2007

reminder on campaign news (4.00 / 1)
This is as a good a time as any to remind folks... if you are a candidate for office or affiliated with a campaign, add wvablue [at] gmail [dot] com to your press mailing list if have anything going on you think readers of West Virginia Blue would be interested in.

Also, this is an open access community site, so campaigns are also welcome to post items themselves. I would only ask if someone is formally working for a campaign (e.g., paid staff or in an official position) that they identify themselves as such when posting a diary.

Finally, if anyone has better (public domain) pictures for any of the candidates we've put pictures up for, please send them our way, too.

Makes him sound like he's from Vermont.

Thank Goodness (4.00 / 1)
Now I'll have someone to vote for in November.

ugh (0.00 / 0)
This will be his fifth election in a row topping the MP ticket. Apparently, they love topping out at 2% over there.

Still, You have to hand it to Johnson - once the soft-core porn rows stopped coming his way, he managed to use a bit of resume padding and successfully reinvent himself as West Virginia's answer to Lyndon Larouche.

"rows" = "roles"
someone couldn't type last night

Johnson guaranteed a place on Nov Ballot (0.00 / 0)
What Jesse has done is ensure he is ON the ballot in November to run for the position previously held by Sen Byrd and now occupied by Carte Goodwin.  That in itself is an accomplishment.  Jesse is also running for the house of delegates in his district, I'm sure the publicity won't hurt him if he gets a chance to get his message out.  The Mountain Party, though very small, is a vehicle for independent candidacy in our state and guarantees access that would otherwise be denied.

Not to mention... (0.00 / 0)
The Mountain Party box, though very unelectable, is a place for some of us progressives to cast a vote of conscience. I'll be one of them. I'll give King Joe his chance in 2012 to earn my vote, but this time around, I'm voting for Hechler-Johnson.
