Craig Blair not interested in solutions

State Sen. John Unger (D) has a pretty good direct mailer out stating some of the things he has successfully worked on for the distrit: the Jefferson County DMV, the Route 9 completion from Martinsburg to the Virginia line, the school improvements. His challenger, Del. Craig Blair (R-Extreme Right Wing), is an ideologue who can't point to anything he's done in Charleston because he doesn't believe in government being a solution to anything, which makes it odd that he keeps running for office.

While Unger's mailer is nearly entirely positive, it does contain the most devastating quote I've seen in any campaign literature this year.

Unger was endorsed by the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Next to a picture of Blair is the question "Business-friendly conservative or radical law maker?"

ANSWER: "We quit supporting Blair soon after we found out he is a radical who does not seek solutions even when it is in WV's clear interest to do so." Steve Roberts, president, WV Chamber of Commerce

That sums up Blair's legislative career well. It's too bad it took so long for the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce to realize that and hopefully in the future the chamber will come to the same realization about other radicals like Blair.

Unger serious legislator, Blair showboat entertainer (4.00 / 1)
I see this race as the difference between night and day.  The candidates couldn't be more removed from each other.  John is quiet and unassuming while Craig is a grand-stander, animated, funny, and loud.  John works behind the scenes to make important legislation happen and conducts himself in a gentlemanly manner while his counterpart has threatened to do cartwheels on the house floor if that body decided to pass his floor amendment prior to the vote.  I like them both for different reasons but if I have to vote for someone who will represent me in Charleston there is no doubt in my mind who I will and have voted for all these years.  John Unger isn't always looked favorable upon by his colleagues in Charleston, he is fiercely independent sometimes, doesn't always go along to get along but nobody will disparage his intelligence when it comes to policy issues and his unselfish work ethic.  The fact that he now has become a man of the cloth so to speak is not a reason to turn him out but gives even more credence to his abilities to make ethics a prime mover in his career.

Unger Ad Angers Blair (0.00 / 0)
It must be why Craig blew up at a candidates forum held by the Berkeley County Farm Bureau last night in Martinsburg.  A nice lady from Gerrardstown asked the candidate Blair why he takes money from a proposed quarry operator, Continental Brick, in the historic town which threatens to ruin the areas surface waters and drinking waters and he totally went berserk on her in front of several dozen attendees much to their shock and dismay.  Too bad the county farm bureau had already endorsed Blair, is it too late to recind it?  Blair reportedly said he'd take money from anyone who wanted to donate to his election campaign....anyone.  The Unger ad which drove ol Craig over the edge was one that had Craig behind bars for carrying weapons on school grounds or something, it's good to see John tell it like it is instead of turning the other cheek.  I predict Unger wins by 15 points.
