The Return of the Ring

There are moments in life where you know history is being made before you.

We've had much to criticize Sen. Joe Manchin about regarding his wrong decisions on Don't Ask Don't Tell and other issues.

But one thing we have not done enough of is celebrate what we as activists have helped achieve.

From Clem's diary (4.00 / 1)
Dec. 18, 2007:

This is a no-brainer issue for Democrats to get out in front of.

It is clear the country is growing more and more tolerant. It is increasingly clear that openly gay members serving in the military pose no threat to unit cohesion, morale, or discpline. In this time of recruiting challenges, we should openly welcome all qualified individuals who wish to serve in the United States military.

It's long past time for the flawed don't-ask-don't-policy to be rescinded. Here's hoping the next Congress and the next President will do just that.

We've had quite a few diaries over the years on issues of gay equality even though neither Clem or I are gay. Clem being a chicken thief is just as irrelevant as the issue of our sexuality in caring and advocating for equality for all.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.

Thanks for that blast from the past. That "next Congress and the next President" did get it done, just under the wire.

Sometimes hope does become reality... a good reminder that elections do matter.

Onward now to ENDA enactment and DOMA repeal.

Celebration is definitely in order (4.00 / 2)
The Manchin vote SNAFU has been a distraction, but this is a huge step forward. The impact of this week's actions will be felt for generations.

In a good conversation everyone speaks.  In a great conversation some even listen.
