Joe Manchin is hurting the working uninsured in West Virginia and it makes me sick.  This guy never ceases to amaze me.  Manchin is posturing to undercut the most important Democratic policy achievement of the last three decades.  Not only is he exposing himself as a rube in Washington DC but the K Street lobbyists seem to have him in their back pocket.

Manchin has indicated that he would roll back the expansion of health insurance for the working poor under Medicaid.  This is suppose to cover about 180k West Virginians.  Manchin has also said he would roll back the insurance mandate.  Apparently without the mandate the coverage expansions for those receiving subsidies are not possible.  I read a Rockefeller quote that indicated something like 170k West Virginians would be eligible for these subsidies.  That is 350k West Virginians that Manchin is throwing under the bus.

He must be getting his talking points from the RNC or the Chamber of Commerce because he certainly doesn't care about the plight of the common West Virginian.  Manchin is an embarrassment and he is hurting our State without his ineptitude.

By the way Politico, Manchin is no freaking moderate.  He is bought and paid for.

Health Care and Joe Manchin (0.00 / 0)
One of the reasons Joe don't care about our health care is that he has leeched off the government tit so long he doesn't understand that others need such assistance. I saw this one coming a long time ago. I knew he would do this. Joe this is one of those unforgivable sins.

Joe and healthcare (4.00 / 1)
The first time I spoke with Joe about healthcare he said something like we should eventually move to universal healthcare but the place to start was to make sure that everyone who had a job had healthcare.

That seems backwards to me... wouldn't we want, first, to make sure that people who don't have a job--those with no means to support themselves--that they have healthcare? (And, really, why make a choice... let's just jump to the chase and make sure everyone has healthcare.)

As far as I can tell, Joe has a strong belief in: "lift yourself up by your own bootstraps."

But, as MLK, Jr. said: "It is a cruel jest to say to a bootless man to pick himself up by his own bootstraps."

Lifting yourself up (4.00 / 3)
Yeah I've done that a couple of times. One of the things that bothers me the most is the children that are affected by these decisions that our elected politicians make. Most of those decisions are based on corporate decisions rather than decisions made in the interest of the public. I'm glad Joe is only going to be there a couple of years. I would rather see John Perdue or Brooks McCabe or Rick Thompson run for Senator as Joe. You know I used to think Jack Swint was off base, but after reading West Virginia News Blog for a few years I tend to lean in his direction.

Family Boots (0.00 / 0)
Considering that probably the only reason he HAS a political career is because of his family name, I'm skeptical our senator knows much about that bootstrap lifting thingie.

Joe on the side of corporations and teabaggers (0.00 / 0)
Right before the  election Manchin came in to the VA hospital where my dad was a patient. He came in to his room and shook his hand and gave him a hat. As he was going out the door, I told him that our family likes government-run healthcare. He turned around and looked at me like he was shocked. I mean imagine hearing that in a VA hospital!

Joe likes to talk out both sides of his mouth and then vote against the best interest of the people. He should get elected in 2012 because that's exactly how the people of West Virginia have been voting too.

WV is full of people who work for the gov't, or who are military retired, or on Disability or SSI and they rail against big gov't. Go figure.
