Manchin... Can't Stop Being a Republican Wanna Be

Not much else to say as the headline sums it all up. From CNN .

Dem senator breaks with his party and Obama again...

(CNN) - Saying that "we must get our fiscal house in order," Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia says he'll vote against raising the nation's debt ceiling unless it's married to a plan that addresses the nation's broader fiscal problems.

The announcement Monday by Manchin is the latest example of the governor-turned-senator who's up for re-election next year being at odds with his party and President Obama on fiscal matters.

He is determined to prove to the folks he believes are "rubes" at home that he stands for the same reckless spending cuts as the Republicans.

"We must be honest about what we value and what we need to spend your taxpayer dollars on – not what just sounds good," Manchin will say in an address to students at the University of Charleston.

"I have never put together a budget – be it my family's or as governor – that was based on how much we wanted to spend, but on what we had," Manchin will add, according to excerpts provided to CNN. "That is why I will vote against raising the debt ceiling unless the vote is linked to a real budget plan that begins to fix our fiscal mess. We cannot make budgets based on the next election; they must be based on the next generation."

A Manchin aide tells CNN that the speech will kick off what is being called a "Our Values, Our Priorities" weeklong tour.

If you get a chance to see "Not Just Another Joe" while on tour try to let him know that we West Virginians aren't going to fall for his running for office as a Blue Dog Republican tactics.

Joe Manchin is a living monument to Senator Robert C. Byrd: every time Manchin opens his mouth, he reminds me how much we lost when Senator Byrd died.

When a man embarks upon a crime, he is morally guilty of any other crime which may spring from it. Sherlock Holmes.

Despite my deep loathing of Manchin... (4.00 / 2)
and the overall lack of respect he has from policy people and his peers in the Senate...hmmmm, no that is about all I have to say.

Manchin keeps whispering these words to the GOP: (4.00 / 1)
" I wish I knew how to quit you."

Gee, enough already. I just wish 'HE'D' come out of the closet too!

political theater (4.00 / 5)
This is just more Manchin posing for press. Denounce the debt, yet offer no ideas of your own on what/where to cut. Funding will be reduced, he'll publicly take credit for bullying congress to make it happen because his support and one vote is so dang valuable. This guy cannot wait to get out of the senate and run in a POTUS/VPOTUS race. Most in DC have already figured out what most in WV seem unable to - in terms of substance he's ankle-deep. Theres just not much "there" there.

Would he? (4.00 / 2)
Like to cut off funds for the Lincoln Primary Care Center?
Cabin Creek Health Association?  New River Family Health Association? None of those guys could get by without gov't spending.

Would he like to cut the checks of all the folks on disability in the state?

To me any senator who is from WV that is preaching cuts better take a HARD look in the mirror.

How about he closes Fairmont State college?? I mean we have Glenville down the road and WVU up the road? And 89% of the students at Fairmont get financial aid so he could cut that off at the same time??

I know Joe Manchin, I voted for Joe Manchin. Joe Manchin, "YOU ARE NO SENATOR ROBERT BYRD".

Manchin's "Our Values, Our Priorities Tour" (0.00 / 0)
made a stop in Morgantown today where Joe said:

"The time has come," he said. "And if we don't declare energy independence, as our founder declared independence because they didn't want the oppression that came over them, they didn't want the control and that exactly what we're seeing. We're seeing other countries take control of our destiny and I don't want that manipulation, we shouldn't have it, we don't need to have it."

He's sounding more like George W. Bush every time he opens his mouth.

only way to achieve energy independence (0.00 / 0)
The only path to energy independence is through renewable energy and cutting our consumption to about 30% of what it is now.

All those carbon-based energy sources (coal, gas) have international markets. There's no such thing as independence--the price is always set globally.

Current energy usage in the US includes an incredible amount of wasted energy. There's a lot of waste we can cut out of our energy consumption patterns without reducing quality of life. Through efficiency and conservation, we can cut our energy usage down to per-capita levels consistent with other industrialized nations.

Any politician who is truly interested in energy independence had best start talking about renewable energy and efficiency in the same breath. Otherwise, they're just pandering.
