Keystone Pipeline bad for West Virginia's coal and natural gas

by: Carnacki

Making it easier to export energy from North America, and that is what the Keystone project really would do, would not benefit West Virginia's coal or natural gas industries.

So when false claims are made about the number of jobs created, keep in mind that's not taking into account the number of jobs that would be lost here.

How Many... (0.00 / 0)
How many jobs would be lost here?

Good question. Using the same Republican math and calculations on how many would be created, it's safe to say 35,000 jobs would be lost in West Virginia.

But, since that math.... (0.00 / 0)
Since that math makes the foundation for "false claims", how many jobs would "actually" be lost here?

Stands to reason that if energy is being supplied through Keystone XL, there won't be as much demand for WV to supply energy.

Rumor has it... (4.00 / 1)
Rumor has it they want to send OIL from Canada to the United States with the Keystone deal, not coal or natural gas. The US hunger for oil doesn't really impact the hunger for coal in a substantial way.

Don't be misled by Coal Industry ads (4.00 / 1)
to the contrary, stopping MTR has actually led to more miners being trained and hired to dig the coal underground.  Most of the coal mined in WV is sent out of the country to China to make steel. Only 17% is used domestically from what I've read. All those misleading ads about retiring old power plants and reliability issues that could result are simply not true.  As WV becomes more energy efficient, (we're not very efficient right now), the reliability issues go away.
