So one redistricting plan introduced by Sen. John Unger would put the two Panhandles together in one Congressional district. This has the advantage of putting the two areas the rest of the state would like to get rid of into one Congressional District and leave the State of Kanawha intact. The disadvantage is it doesn't put Capito up against McKinley, although some say that's a feature and not a bug because certain individuals don't want one of them looking for a Senate seat to run for when they are lazy and have their comfortable representative seats they're busy keeping warm.

Could the odd couple that is the Panhandles work together - like Starsky and Hutch or Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in 48 Hours or would it be more like Sting and Lugar, with everyone knowing Lex would eventually stab Sting in the back?

The optimistic outcome (0.00 / 0)
The optimistic outcome to the scenario you describe requires both the activist force of the Eastern Panhandle and the reliable base of the Northern Panhandle to work together. Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen in the "new" WV-01 in 2012.

Furthermore, Sue Thorn is not the right candidate to defeat David McKinley. I can handle any criticism her supporters may bring, but I will equally provide a more practical examination of this year's race. Many of our progressive brethren underestimate the influence of the regional media in the "new" WV-01. Our candidate must be one who, with his/her experience and passion, can overcome the established opposition media.

Sue Thorn will beat McKinley. (4.00 / 2)
West Virginians are becoming weary of being represented in Washington by folks who do not really represent the regular citizens of our state.
Yes!  Sue Thorn's campaing is different!  Because she is different and the people of our state are going to rush to join a real grass-roots campaign that speaks "with folks", not "to them".
The citizens of this state are ready to stand up against the slick, shiny campaign tactics of wealthy candidates who do not represent real West Virginia.
They are ready for an open, honest, Democratic candidate for Congress!
And that candidate is Sue Thorn!

So who, in your estimation would be the "right" candidate? Another tea party endorsed "Democrat" or maybe another ALEC member who wants to masquerade as a Democrat. Maybe someone else who would turn a blind eye and deaf eye to the suffering of constituents who need health care, jobs and a Congressional representative that will listen to them.

David McKinley has spent the last year blocking legislation, threatening the EPA and in general doing the bidding of the Republican Party - yet his voting record and rhetoric differs little from that of other members of the WV Congressional delegation. Perhaps you would like to continue on that path.

Absolutely not (0.00 / 0)
Everyone on here who knows me remembers that I was ardently against Oliverio... so much so that I wrote in Alan Mollohan in the 2010 general.

I have a few suggestions on who is the best candidate to beat Dave McKinley, but none of them will be running this year. If Sue Thorn is the Democratic candidate this year, she will obviously get my vote. But, I will remain realistic about her chances of beating McKinley.

I hope that she will get more than your vote. Financial and physical support (shoe leather and phone calls) are also important.

Let Us Divert our Energies and Frustrations (0.00 / 0)
Let us divert our energy and frustrations for a candidate who has the philosophies of Sue Thorn but who can also command the respect of even WV's conservative media.

and that would be who? (0.00 / 0)
