The Daily Mail today reported in a short that Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-Bush/McCain) will be the graduation speaker at Kanawha County's adult education graduation this weekend.
I would like to congratulate the graduates on their hard work, sacrifice, and accomplishment. There is little more satisfying in life than the recognition and accomplishment of furthering your education.
Ms. Capito got on the help students bandwagon after the crushing defeat of the Republican party in congressional elections in 2006. She found it in her moral fiber to vote with the vast majority of Democrats to undue damage done by the outgoing Republican congress in 2006.
Some would say that's laudable, I suppose. But is it really worth a pat on the back when you know the following?
Capito voted three times for the Republican fiscal year 2006 budget, which included a $12.7 billion cut for student loan programs, the largest ever. Capito even voted against a Democratic proposal that would have restored the funding cut. She opposed a measure that would have cut student loan rates in half for financially disadvantaged students. Students taking out loans would have had the lower rate locked in for the life of their loans, saving many students thousands of dollars.
From the Daily Mail,
"These now successful adults are ready to continue their education, seek better employment and be involved citizens of their communities," said Laura Wilcox, adult education county coordinator.
Ms. Capito, I agree. These adults are ready to continue their education. Why have you made it harder for them to do so? |
