Learn a New Word Every Day: My Parenting Motto

by: CA Berkeley WV

( - promoted by Clem Guttata)

I think of myself one half of an okay parent duo. We have raised three responsible adults, so far, and the three remaining school kids are a joy to their teachers.

I have delighted, despite my math degree, in challenging them with word. I try to use one they don't know and tell them to look it up in Websters. The oldest likes to be challenged by multiple crosswords puzzles everyday. All have taken a foreign language when offered.

Well, today I learned a new word.

I have been reading several farewell essays to the man who will be president for less hours than I can count on by fingers and toes. I sure am looking forward to wince-free State of the Union addresses again.

Oh Please oh Please Oh Please let this happen.

Dick Cheney indicted for corruption in Texas! At least someone is indicting him for something.

I know I don't have to tell y'all, but Dick Cheney really represents everything, absolutely everything wrong with this country. Let's just hope Obama doesn't let him off the hook for "reconciliation".

Guest editorial: Impeachment and Preserving Our Constitution

by: Clem Guttata

Tue Jul 31, 2007 at 10:21:15 AM EDT

Written by Stephen Crockett, co-host of Democratic Talk Radio.

The United States has been in a prolonged Constitutional crisis since the Supreme Court showed it had been corrupted by partisan politics when the Bush vs. Gore ruling was issued in December, 2000. The Bush Administration began by Republican politicians thumbing their noses at the rule of law. The past seven years have been an unending assault on Constitutional government, American political traditions and personal freedom.

It is time to place impeachment fully on the table for the top members of the Bush White House and Cabinet. The appointment of Attorney General Gonzales should never have been approved by Congress. His record of distorting the truth in order to protect the political career of George W. Bush is the only real qualification he had when nominated. It was the reason he was appointed and the reason the appointment should have been soundly rejected.

Impeach Attorney General Alberto Gonzales: Robert Greenwald Video

by: Clem Guttata

Mon May 21, 2007 at 21:01:30 PM EDT

If you like the video, visit this site to sign a petition calling to Impeach Gonzales. Via email from Robert Greenwald:

Dear activists, colleagues, and friends,

The Gonzales hearings made plain for all to see that the highest law enforcement officer in the land is unwilling to tell the truth under oath.

Think about that.

He doesn't recall. He doesn't know. He evades, answering questions with questions, and yet, the President has not fired him. He continues to damage our country.

The Republican Scandals - Our Congressional Delegation Speaks Out

by: wvblueguy

Mon Mar 26, 2007 at 19:56:29 PM EDT

Each day seems to bring us more unbelievable stories about the political excesses of the the Bush administration and how the the likes of Karl Rove and his ilk continue to meddle in the peoples business.  From the management of our invasion of Iraq and the Defense Department, to the CIA and the National Security Agency, military hospitals ala Walter Reed and the Veterans Administration, the Justice Department, and now the General Services Administration. I just keep waiting for another shoe to drop bringing us more unbelievable scandals.  Even many members of Bush's rubber stamp congress have started to see the light as we saw this weekend with Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) mentioning that all important word... IMPEACHMENT.

Finally a Democratic Congress is asking the right questions and bringing administration officials in to testify. Amazing to see that a senior Justice Department official Marcia Gooding has announced that she will invoke her constitutional right to not testify against herself as she will invoke the fifth amendment to avoid testifying about what actually happened in prosecutorgate.  Tonight crooksandliars.com is pointing to a story by Bob Geiger that gives the schedule for all important hearings this week.  Geiger's story can be read right here.  C&L's post can be read here, and includes the following from Geiger's article...

It's another huge week in the Senate Judiciary Committee, which we knew would constantly be the case as soon as Democrats took over and oversight of a crooked White House actually started happening.

On Tuesday, Judiciary will call FBI Director Robert Mueller in to testify on what kinds of Constitutional corners his crew has been cutting over the last few years in a hearing called "Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Another big day in Judiciary is Thursday when a hearing is held on "Preserving Prosecutorial Independence: Is the Department of Justice Politicizing the Hiring and Firing of U.S. Attorneys?" Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) will be grilling D. Kyle Sampson, the former Chief of Staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

And I like the follow-up notice for the Thursday meeting that indicates time will be allocated to "discuss the possibility of the issuance of certain subpoenas in connection with investigation into replacement of United States Attorneys."
