C-Span has been running the videos from the Tea Party Convention in Nashville all night, and I started watching when I got up in the morning... and, believe me, this is scary stuff. I especially was taken by one Joseph Farah, who is the Founder, CEO and Editor In Chief of WorldNetDaily.

Important PDWV Convention Update

by: PDAWV

There have been some necessary changes to the convention of which I need to make you aware.

First, our Keynote Speaker, PDA National Director Tim Carpenter, will be unable to attend.  His doctor has scheduled him for surgery on that day.  We will miss Tim, but our thoughts and prayers will be with him for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Second, without a Keynote Speaker, we will be cutting the Friday date of the conference.  We had originally scheduled our Keynote Address and a reception on that night.  Instead, we will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, January 24, 2009 with no activities planned for Friday evening.  Accordingly, the cost of the conference will be reduced by $10.00 from the original $65.00 to $55.00.  Anyone who has already registered and paid will be given a refund for the $10.00.

Finally, conference registrations are not exactly coming in at a torrid pace.  In order to break even financially, we have to have at least 40 paying attendees.  In order to be able to continue with plans for the conference, we need to have registrations or firm commitments for registration from a total of 35 people by the end of business next Tuesday, January 13.  If you are planning to register but haven't done so yet, please visit the PDWV blog and follow the instructions to register.  If you plan to register and cannot yet, for whatever reason, please email our Treasurer, Malyka Knapp-Smith (mknappsmith@yahoo.com), and let her know of your intentions.

Again, we need to have registrations or commitments from a total of 35 people by 5:00pm Tuesday in order to prevent the cancellation of what promises to be a very informative conference.

Democrats Seat Delegates From Florida And Michigan At Convention
8/25/2008 6:09 PM ET

(RTTNews) -  Among the first acts of the Democratic National Convention in Denver Monday were two moves to address controversies that plagued the party's presidential nomination process.

With calls for unity, Democratic delegates approved the reports of the party's rules committee and credentials committee, which included seating full delegations from Florida and Michigan.

Under party rules, those states could have been stripped of their delegates because they moved primary elections forward outside of the approved window.

When first I heard about this on Thom Hartmann's radio show, the reporter said that it was done on the express recommendation of Sen. Obama.

Don't ya feel that Howard Dean YEEEhaaw building up for when Sen. Clinton finally releases her delegates tonight?

Off to Denver

by: Clem Guttata

Sun Aug 24, 2008 at 11:54:39 AM EDT

It's late Sunday morning, almost afternoon, and I'm moments away from leaving for the airport. This evening WabiSabi and I will meet up at a hotel in Stapleton, about halfway between DIA and downtown.

Thanks to an uptick in ads for the convention, some of our expenses will be covered by the money the site brings in (over and above our rather modest expenses). Still, we've both contributing quite on our own to head to Denver.

I'm going to keeping posting an occasional beg this week. I'd like to see if we can at least cover the cost of our (shared) $99 per night hotel room and the $100 each registration to The Big Tent.

Over on the left-hand side you'll see a new ChipIn! widget. Please make a donation (of any size) to help WabiSabi and I cover the Democratic National Convention this week. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Progressive Democrats of America at the WV State Convention

by: PDAWV

Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 15:56:25 PM EDT

With the West Virginia Democratic Party Convention only one day away, I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you some PDA-WV news and activities that are happening in conjunction with the Convention.

First of all, on Friday night during the Congressional District Caucuses, state delegates will have the opportunity to vote for delegates to the National Democratic Party Convention in Denver, Colorado.  Below is a list of PDA members are seeking to be chosen as delegates to the National Convention.  Please consider supporting these fellow PDA members if you are a state delegate:

First Congressional District, for Barack Obama

·        Julie McKeen, female
·        Jerry McKeen, male

Second Congressional District, for Barack Obama

·        Walter Loeb, male

If I have left anyone off this list, please let me know.

Secondly, if you are attending the Convention, please don't forget to stop by the PDA table.  Not only would we love to meet you and discuss progressive issues, we will have Convention Swag-PDA buttons, bumper stickers, handouts, and other items to give away.  We will also be promoting PDA and signing up new PDA members to form local chapters, so come by, get a button, and bring a friend.

Lastly, we would like to invite you to join us for a PDA-WV After-Convention Mixer at the Whitewater Lounge in the Charleston Marriott Town Center.  We will meet as soon as the convention adjourns on Friday night, which should be around 10 PM.  Stop by the PDA-WV table for more information and directions.  (The wife and I will also be joining the YDs for donuts Saturday morning.  I love donuts and I'm not too old to be a YD yet!)

You can also get in touch with me at any time over the weekend by using my mobile number (444-3418).  I will also try to keep this site updated with convention news and information.  (If there's any juicy gossip I might just print that, too.)

Thanks, and look forward to seeing you at the Convention!  If you are not going to the convention, but are interested in PDA, please visit our PDA National Website where you can find out more about our goals and what we do as well as join (there is no fee to join).

Convening a National Conversation about Democracy & America in Denver

by: Mayor John Hickenlooper-Denver Host Committee

Thu Jun 12, 2008 at 15:17:43 PM EDT

( - promoted by Carnacki)

By Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper

Now that one of the most remarkable primaries in our nation's history has concluded, attention is turning to the Democratic National Convention in Denver.  In less than three months, the Mile High City and the Rocky Mountain West will host this historic event for the first time since 1908.

The Convention also coincides with Denver's 150th birthday - a
century-and-a-half of progress and innovation since its birth at the height of the Colorado gold rush.  A hub of opportunity for people seeking new frontiers, people come to Colorado seeking much more than gold these days.  The spirit of visionary zeal and limitless possibility is as strong as ever in the New West.  So it's fitting that as the Democratic Party marches toward its own new frontier, it will do so through Denver.

A message to all of you in West Virginia: you don't have to be in Denver - or on the Convention floor - to get in on the action though.  The Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee has organized two interactive ways for people anywhere in America to get involved.  We're convening a national conversation about democracy and community and invite everyone to participate.
