West Virginia Blue
The Best Blogging Community in West Virginia Democratic politics, progressive policies, the good life and free living in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.
Remember folks, copyright is mentioned in the US Constitution
"Real" reporters may recognize this site, newsu.org, at which the newspaper reporters are often registered. It addresses questions that have surfaced here recently, but it is for "the professionals". Everytime you write a diary you see this:
RULES West Virginia Blue is an open, inclusive community about politics, progressive policies and issues impacting West Virginia. Your diary should be too. Don't copy-and-paste entire copyright articles, excerpt within fair use limitations and link to orginal sources.
For a site open to all try dailyblogtips. A specific article that has Dos and Don'ts is here. Since the issues of "fair use" has surfaced more than once recently, I invite all of us to take a refresher course.
Everything published after 1978 implicitly has a copyright. This includes paper and digital media. I consider this site worth protecting.
AP doesn't welcome blog links. Until they agree to play fair, it's time to boycott all AP stories no matter what paper they appear at.
Fair use is still the law of the land and there are plenty of news sources that readily welcome the extra traffic and google page rank boost that comes from inbound links.
(Sorry, Lawrence Messina... maybe as a blogger, you can help, um, educate your corporate offices on how short-sighted their latest intimidation tactics are.)
